What do Americans speak? I know that people from England speak English but I've always called what I spoke English. I'm in the United States though, not from England so I'm not English. Am I still considered to be English-speaking or is it referred to as something else? I'm confused

Daintree answered Tuesday September 29 2009, 4:59 pm: American speak American. The true Language of Britton comes from the spoken words of the Brittish Empire. The Queen. To speak the Queens english is to pronounce each word correctly. It is impropper to use slang or to swear. Now many town in Britton have various accents and some don't say the words properly at all this is the character of individual towns. You can tell where they are from by the words they speak the accent they use. A bit like New Yorkers sound different to The Southerners in Texas or New Oleans. I'm 8 generations Aussie by the way. However, English is widely spoken around the world, but it's mostly prominent in places like England, America & even Asia. :)
The English that Americans speak does differ from the English that British people speak mostly because of regional things, & slang. But yes, you do speak English. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
rainbowcherrie answered Monday August 24 2009, 12:47 pm: English is the most widely spoken language in the world. What you speak is classified as 'American English'. You'll find that it does differ slightly from the English I speak (in England) as we use different words and spellings, as well as saying some things differently. So yes, you are still considered to be English speaking, it is just a variation on 'original' English. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
