I used to have problems with my breath also, until i discovered i was suffering from something known as tonsil stones. I think its acutally fairly common, but i hadn't heard of it either.

It basically happens when you get crevices in your tonsils from past infections, and these holes in your mouth sometimes develop a slow- growing infection that doesnt irritate your throat but leaves behind a terrible smelling whitish-yellow gunk which fills the crevive and makes your mouth smell foul.

To look for the stones, take a flashlight and look in your mouth using a mirror. Look closely at your tonsils for any white spots. Your tonsils might be quite large also, i think thats a pretty good sign too. If you cant see anything and you're feeling daring you might want to try GENTLY prodding your tonsil with a cotton q-tip or something. If you do have an infection, some of the white gunk might fall out with enough persuasion.

There are some OTC mouthwashes and toothpastes that are supposed to treat bad breath from tonsil stones. i think its called 'therabreath' of something. I don't know if it works. I ended up talking to a doctor and getting my tonsils out. problem solved. :)

If you arent sure if you are suffering from stones or not and have tried solving your problem in the other ways people mentioned, it wouldnt hurt to go to a doctor and get medical advice. at least you're aware of your bad breath, thats the first step :) most people with bad breath dont even know! they just make everyone else suffer! :) good luck.

It could be:

1) Gum Disease
2) Cavities (Most common)
4) Dry Mouth (Most common also)

Bad breath can also be caused by particular foods. Onions and Garlic also, of course, cause bad breath.

1)Drying Agents: Beer, Wine, and basically any type of alcohol. (Smoking too).

2)Dense Protein Foods: Beef, Chicken, Fish, etc.

3)Sugars: Candies, Mints, Chewing Gum (Only if they have sugars..which most do..)

4)Acids: Coffee - both decaf and regular have acids (Tea is OK)
Tomato Juice
Orange Juice
Pineapple Juice
Grapefruit Juice

All of these cause bad breath.

You could have an infection in your mouth. From your gums or an abcessed tooth. Do your gums bleed? Are your teeth straight. Crooked teeth, can cause gaps in the gums where food can get stuck and then fester and smell.
FLossing them DAILY will help strengthen your gums and keep food particles out, that can rot and cause bad breath.
If it is an abcessed tooth, well only a dentist can find that, until it gets so bad that your face swells and your are in terrible pain.
If you are sure that it is not one of those, then you can try brushing your tongue. They actually make implements just for tongue brushing. You can usually find them next to the toothbrushes. YOu'll have to do it daily.

you know the main cause to bad breath is from your tounge so brush your tounge and floss your teeth thats where bad breath builds up it really does help but if in anycase it doesnt then you need to talk to a dentist or a doctor.
