I really want to stop drinking soda but I'm having a really hard time doing so. Usually I'll have 5-6 sodas a week and 99% of the time it's when I'm out. It's really not that much, but soda is so unhealthy for you and I'm trying to get a grip on my diet. Sometimes my dad keeps a 2 liter in the fridge so it's very tempting to have 'just a cup' and ending up drinking 2 more during the day. I don't want to switch to diet sodas either because they're worse for you and 0 calorie drinks like crystal lite contain aspartame which is a fake sweetener that causes a lot of health issues. Any ideas on how to stop? oh & I'm 17/f.

I admit, I've cheated and had a soda here or there, but other than that I don't drink soda anymore. I always remind myself how bad soda is for you. All that sugar...yuck. And empty calories. Cutting soda is a great way to help lose weight! I've replaced soda with water, and I feel like I have more energy during the day. When you go out, get water! If you go to a restaurant, water is free. Also, juices are sweet and can replace the desire of a sweet sugary soda. Good luck

Find something else that you like, and put it in the fridge next to the pop so that when you're tempted to drink the pop, you will see your alternative right there.
hotpotato answered Wednesday July 29 2009, 1:27 pm: I think maybe you miss carbonated drinks. My high school stopped selling junk food but they sell sparkling fruit juice. You can add alka seltzer/club soda to tea to make it fizzy! [ hotpotato's advice column | Ask hotpotato A Question ]
ThirdQED answered Wednesday July 29 2009, 1:00 pm: The easiest way is to stop (by "stop," I mean STOP COMPLETELY, not the kind of "uh, maybe just one or two" stop) for a month. And that's it. You would no longer feel the temptation to drink soda anymore, not until you start to drink them frequently again. Personally I drink soda no more than once a year, but as far as quitting goes, try to go down to 1-2 a month.
If you are too addicted to caffeine to do that, then I suggest you to try out tea instead. I don't think you would like tea enough to drink 5-6 glasses of them a week, lol. Most teenagers don't. Besides tea, water sounds appealing too. Most people do NOT drink enough water for their body in a day.
Don't buy soda! This might sound obvious, but because you said that "99% of the time" you drink soda is when you are out, I thought I should just point it out. If you don't have it, you cannot consume it.
Knowledge is Power! That hasn't change yet. Read about aspartame, about how it contain methanol and how it will turn into formic acid and formaldehyde. Read about how Coke can dissolves a nail in several days, or how coke can be use as a toilet bowl cleaner. The more you know, the more nasty they become. Eventually you'll come to the point where you want to avoid them as much possible, just like how you want to avoid smoking or walking alone at midnight on a dark and quiet street. Vegalicious21 answered Wednesday July 29 2009, 12:18 pm: The only thing i can say is, drink milk and water. those are healthy for you. i know it is hard to stop drinking pop, but you just have to have your mind set. Ask your dad if he can put the pop somewhere where you cant see it (like out of the fridge somewhere and just use ice in it, or in a different fridge that you dont look in as much) you can also try flavored water, because alot of that is carbonated so it is pop-like, and it doesnt have many bad things in it.
