piercing against parent wishes?

Question Posted Monday June 1 2009, 1:55 am

15/f.

Alright, so I've asked both of my parents numerous times about piercings. My mother is more considerate, but when talked about with my father the question brings up termoil and anger, and usually ends in some type of yelling. I've been heavily thinking about getting my nose, and/or belly button pierced, against my fathers wishes. If I do, does anyone know a good way to hide the fact I have them?

(Our family has a boat, and we go out on it frequently, so please don't suggest that I wear a shirt to cover my naval around him)

Let me tell you dont do that lets just say i have a friend who did that and it did not turn well. She has an awfull scar for life it got infected. Also eventually they will find out usually it shows through the shirt or your shirt is off on a boat or your hit a table or something with your stomach and it rips out dont do it.

You're a minor. Respect your parents wishes, get one when you turn 18, preferably after you move out.

Its an image your dad doesn't like. With some people, tattoos and piercings have a very negative connotation, and because he agrees with those ideas he does not like the idea of his daughter being perceived that way.

He thinks that most of the people who get piercings are a bit crazy. He doesn't think you're a bit crazy, he's afraid other people will think you're a bit crazy and that it will have negative impacts on you. Dads are always afraid that the world won't see their daughters through their eyes. Its why I'm going to put any boyfriend my future daughter has through hell. I know someone with a trained bear...maybe I'll make them wrestle it before they're allowed to propose...

Anyway, you have plenty of time for personal statements. Your father is not going to acknowledge you as an adult. And you aren't, you're 15. Respect his wishes, move out, and do whatever the fuck you want. But for the sake of everyone's sanity, drop the subject for now.

this is a tough one:

if you decide to get a nose piercing, nowadays, they have clear studs which can easily be covered with make up. you could give that go.

if you decide to get your bellybutton pierced, you could always try a one piece bathing suit. i know what you're thinking (ew, a one piece?). haha, actually, one pieces are now the latest fashion especially with celebrities like kim kardashian and jenny mccarthy and they also come in some really cute styles so no one will suspect you of anything! hope i helped!

There is no way to hide them. You also have to be at least 18 to get piercings without your parents permission. Because of infection I wouldn't recommend any self piercings.

Just keep talking and maybe you will get dad talked into it. Maybe find some pictures of people with those type of piercings that look good. Most people only see the pictures of those who look like escaped psychos. Show him they can look very nice.

it took me a long time to convince my parents to let me pierce my body (i have 9 now). honestly, i dont think that you should go behind their back because thats really hard to hide, especially somethin thats on your face or a belly ring when youre frequently in a bathing suit. try a more mature approach and ask for reasons why your dad doesnt want you to get it done, and give him reasons why you want to get it done. dont nag though, thats an automatic no.
ask your ma to help you out if shes the one thats more open about it.
and if you're still gonna get it done, they have clear belly and nose rings called retainers, and some are visible and some are not. you can get em at hot topic and some kiosks in the mall where they sell body jewelry. but after you get it pierced its prolly not a good idea to change it, nose or belly- so youd probably have to find a way to hide it.

i am 25/f. i think that you should wait until you are 18 (and old enough to get it done legally) and if by then, you still want it then by all means get it done. i used to want piercings but didnt get it done because my parents didnt want me to. if you go against what your parents want, and have to worry about covering it all the time, it wont make you happy. and then when your parents see it (and they eventually will) they will be disappointed in you and wont trust you about other things (sex, drinking, going out, drugs, etc.). It will become harder for you to have a good relationship with them. but if by all means, you need it NOW (as many 15 year olds do, there is really no way to cover the nose ring. the belly button ring you could wear a tankini or one piece. Although i think that covering it up completely defeats the purpose. hope this helps!
