okays sooo, ive been on birth control for like two years now, and i have never known the answer to this question, ive tried to ask my ginocologest but she didnt really answer me.
butt.. when your on birth control, can the guy like cum in you and you wont get pregnant. Like im not stupid me and my boyfriend still use condoms every single time and were still going to, but im just kinda curious casue if not then what does birth control do?
tamera0708 answered Tuesday April 14 2009, 7:16 pm: well birth control doesnt have a 100% posibility of protecting you from being pregnant. what birth control does is it has hormones and it helps with the hormones that cause pregnancy. id stick with both of them. if you need anyother help just let me know. :D [ tamera0708's advice column | Ask tamera0708 A Question ]

Hormonal birth control works via two different methods.
One is to stop ovulation. Your ovaries do not release an egg, so you can't have a baby. As I understand it, this is actually the less reliable of the two, because if somehow an egg does get released, theres nothing else stopping it.
The other is to thicken the uterus's walls so that an egg cannot attach to them. After a sperm and egg join, the new embryo has to attach itself to the side of the uterus in order for it to actually grow into anything. When the walls thicken, it prevents the egg from attaching, and even if the egg is fertilized you have a barrier against pregnancy.
My girlfriend and I have been using the second kind for four years and have had no problems, even when we've gone unprotected. Pregnancy is the only thing we worry about (both tested long ago) and we've never had a scare with or without a condom.

Birth control is protection, it isn't 100% effective so you could have unprotected (condoms) sex but there's a chance you'll get preg. That's why the pill and a condom together is effective. A condom alone is still good protection but if it breaks, there's no "extra" shield like the pill.
The pill is hormones, chemicals, etc. It controls out bodies. Basically it keeps your ovaries from releasing eggs and getting contact with sperm. Which is what I meant by shield. The pill also thickens a woman’s cervical mucus which blocks sperm.
It also protects you from abnormal breast growths, cancers (ovarian for example), PMS symptoms, anemia (iron deficiency) and vaginal dryness.
If you're going to do it, then go to a pharmacy and buy plan B. I wouldn't make unprotected (condoms!) sex a habit, every so often.. is alright if you're taking the pill daily AND have BACK UP *ready*
GwinnCheer2006 answered Sunday April 12 2009, 8:36 pm: Birth control isnt 100% effective. Yes it REDUCES the risk but there still is a slight chance you could get pregnant. I wouldnt recommend him cumming in you with/without a condom unless you're ready to deal with the possible outcome of it. I know someone who their boyfriend hardly ever pulls out and shes never gotten pregnant but also know people who use a control and birth control and still got pregnant. Its a risky thing but its really your choice. [ GwinnCheer2006's advice column | Ask GwinnCheer2006 A Question ]
