my hair is orange!

Question Posted Sunday April 12 2009, 11:25 am

I had black hair before I bleached it and now my roots are platinum blonde and my hair is an orange color. I'm planning on going to the salon tomorrow, can they do anything to change the color/make it lighter? Should I add highlights to cover up the orange? What should I do?

It sounds like the same thing that happened to me! I took care of it at home, though.

I had dyed black hair, then tried to bleach it back. The roots turned superblonde, and the rest was reddish-orange.

What I did was to dye it every couple of weeks or so with an ash blonde-brown. The ash tone helps to tone down the orangeyness. So I would assume that if they keep stripping your hair, they could correct any funny colours with an ash blonde. It won't be platinum, but it will look far more natural.

okay so, (=
Im second year in cosmotology school so ive learned about thisss.
it depends if you were a natural black before, casue no matter what you do evetually your color is going to come show through and its gonna keep having an orange or coppper tint to it. You defently want them to strip your hair of the color. then dye it again. lol your hair is going to be dead from all the chemicals but it should be blonde if they do it right. you should defently get a color sheild shampoo to help the color to stay right and to rehealthen your hair.

They should be able to change the color. There are dyes out there to contrast the orange (i believe it is a very subtle blue tone) and make it more natural looking. I usually go to Sally Beauty Supply to get the stuff for my hair. They will definitely have a toner for orange hair. That is probably what they will do at the salon if they do not just bleach the ends again to even it out.

That's great that you're going to the salon tomorrow! Honestly I can't tell you what they're going to advise you to do, because I'm not a stylist. But, I was in the same situation once, where I got highlights and then went in a swimming pool & my hair turned completely orange. What they did for me, was stripped my hair completely of color and then redid it. You'll have that option to get it colored again, more then likely they won't be able to strip all of the color out - so for it to look good you'll want to color it. It cost me $200, which is way better then it being orange anyways!

Anyways, just go in tomorrow with open ideas and ask their advice. Since they've probably seen this case a gazillion times they'll know exactly what to do - which would be best for you.
