hi, well. my mom doesn't find webcamming so
safe bc i wanted to buy a webcam and use it
on oovoo. and shes just not listening to me,
in her words she thinks webcamming is " inviteing
people into your home " and she doesn't like it
yett i told her all my other friends have it.
she doesn't care and said so, use it when
you go over there house so i guess what
im trying to say is, is webbcamming
safe or not on oovoo? if so, what
are some way i can convience
my mom to get me one.
Here's why:
1. Each webcam has a web address. If someone somehow obtain it, he/she can access it. Of course, webcams come with password, but many users do not bothers to change the default password, making it easy to break through. (I was able to secretly access one of my acquaintance's webcam this way, but her cousin found out two or three days later though, and got me into big trouble with my parents =( . . . and that was only intended to be a joke.)
2. There are also Trojan horse programs that allow hackers to activate a webcam without the user's knowledge.
3. Once they have a webcam, 90% of the kids are not going to keep their promise of "only use it with people whom they know." Ever search around YouTube? Yeah, on YouTube, I've seen videos recorded by webcams showing girls around the age of fifteen dancing in thong underwear. Quite a sight, don't you think?
Knowing all that, if you think you can handle the potential problems, go for it. After all, webcam is a great way to communicate with your friends. You just have to be careful =)
What if you are a boy? Well, go for it, it's your choice. No pedophile or pervert is going to target a boy anyway. Besides, it's not like we cannot defend ourselves. Of course, if you have over five years of studying martial art, then all the better ^-^ [ ThirdQED's advice column | Ask ThirdQED A Question ]

Web cams are great for teens going off to college to keep in touch though. That's one up side I see to them. You can keep in touch with friends across the country that went to different school and your family if they have a webcam. I personally like using it with skype and I find it much safer. Personally, I only use the webcam on my laptop for when I'm on Yahoo Messenger talking to my mother or brother. I think as long as you're just talking with friends & not some complete stranger, you'll be okay. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]

with oovoo, i think it's safe, because you have a buddy list, and you can control who is on it. by doing that you automatically block out strangers. basically, if you want only your friends contacting you, then you set your settings to "only allow buddies on my list to contact me" and you're set! you also get notifications that you can either accept or deny whenever you recieve a request to chat with someone. If you don't want any from strangers you can make your settings say that. basically you tell your mom you wanna see your friends and it might be pointless but it's safe. you control who you see, and you set your settings to only seeing your friends.
