I just got a bible as a present, it's an NIV version. It's purple and green and soo cute, and I'm feeling...inspired. I really want to start sitting down and studying, reading, whatever you want to call it.
My family has a strong Christian background, but we don't go to church or anything like that.
It's such a big book! So...where do I start?
In the back, there are some lists of versus about Jesus' healings and things like that.
I just don't know where to begin. Some versus in the New Testament are in red. Should I start with those?
Do I even read the whole Bible word for word, in order?! Gahhh! I'm so overwhelmed. Please, help!

Then read the book of Acts or Romans. After that read an Old Testament book like Genisis. If you wanna read the entire bible in one year then read three chapters each day, Monday to Saturday, then five chapters on sunday. If you wanna read the bible in two years then read two chapters each day.
Reading the bible is a great way to stay in your spiritual mind. it's a perfect way to keep yourself pure and gives you great advice for everyday problems.

I would recommend starting with the new testament if you have never read the Bible before. It is the easiest and most relevant to present-day life.
Furthermore, a devotional would be really helpful. Try and look for one that is directed towards teens because they will help connect things to your life andd in your lingo. You can find them at Barnes and Noble or Borders or if you have a Family Christian Book Store around.
Don't get too stressed out about the size, most importantly ENJOY IT! It is an awesome way to draw closer to God and to experience him in all of his glory. You do not have to read it in any sort of order. Like I said, I think the new testament is easiest to start. Or the Pslams or Proverbs which are in the Old Testament.
If you need any more help don't be afraid to email me. Good Luck! =)

What I suggest is buying a good devotional. (If you'd like any specifics, let me know) Devotionals give a nice outline of the Bible, and allow an in-depth study. They target the verses and stories that could really help and relate to us.
If you don't want a devotional, you could either start from the beginning (Genesis), or you could go online, visit a bookstore, church, etc. and try to find a 365-day Bible reading. Now, you don't have to follow it and read the whole Bible in a year, but they normally give good amounts and places to read and when.
msubulldogsfan answered Wednesday March 11 2009, 12:57 am: You should start at the beginning in Genesis. It tells how he formed the earth and people and everything. It is great. You should read like a chapter or two or how many ever you want a night. It's a good thing to have. The words in red are what Jesus said. Good luck and God bless you. Smartone answered Wednesday February 18 2009, 8:46 pm: Start at the beginning, where God started. Read a chapter a day, or more if you're inspired.
I would say a prayer for God to speak to me through his word and reveal the truth to me before I start reading.
TwentySomething answered Tuesday February 17 2009, 10:57 am: What I found made it easiest to get through my bible was buying a devotional book. It lasts for the whole year, and it outlines various topics for everyday living and the bible books, chapters, and verses that apply to them. And other than that, it certainly doesn't hurt to just start at the beginning
