Depressing books

Question Posted Saturday February 14 2009, 10:37 pm

I'm 19/f

Looking for any sad/depressing books to read. Something that made you cry. Any suggestions?
Or maybe any movies? But I would prefer books.

Thankyou in advance

Oh my God. I was crying by the end of "13 Reasons Why".

The second "Twilight" book made me cry.

I'm not really sure about any books, but I just finished reading "13 Reasons Why" and while it didn't make me cry, it was sad.
And 1984, like the person below said.

But a movie that had me bawling at the end, along with everyone else watching it (which was like 3 other people) was Philadelphia.
Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington were in it, and it was such a sad movie.

Books:
Angela's Ashes-Frank McCourt
The Jungle-Upton Sinclair
Roots-Alex Haley
1984-George Orwell
To Kill a Mockingbird-Harper Lee
Bastard Out of Carolina-Dorothy Allison
The Color Purple-Alice Walker

Movies:
Little Big Man
Hearts in Atlantis
Cold Mountain
Sling Blade

Yeah sorry I have a little bit of a different taste, but these selections always make me cry.

Friction by E.R Frank made me cry.
It was just the end.
It's a really good book, but the end was just so, so sad.

I think it was the only book that has ever made me cry :P

the only book that has ever made me cry was twilight...but thats only because i was single and lonely and wanting to find my own edward.

the best crying movie ever is "the notebook" i cried the whole time during that. you can also try "the lakehouse"..or something like that. my boyfriend said it made him cry, and he never cries. :)

The only movie that has ever made me cry was "In the Pursuit of Happiness"

Books..um, the Dragonlance series is fairly sad. If you're into fantasy/fiction etc.

Oh, of Mice and Men is really sad. Just remembered that. It's a classic as well as being really sad. Bonus with lit teachers!! but that's a really depressing book.

Best of luck!
