I have really uneven skin tone so foundation is a must. and if I don't set it with powder, it'll wear off in like, an hour. I can't use just mineral powder alone because it too doesn't last. I try oil blotting pads and everything.
but that is besides that point. I'm in school under freaking FLUORESCENTS.
and knowingly, my make up looks caked on and awful.
Also, I agree with what someone said below me, mix your foundation with moisturizer, it really prevents the cakey appearance but still covers, and moisturizes. [ MAK's advice column | Ask MAK A Question ]

What you should do after washing your face is to tone it to maintain the pH of your skin to help keep it from being too oil and perhaps exfoliate every once in a while. Then moisturize, which has nothing to do with making your skin more oily. Also, acne makes makeup look caked on. I think you really need to use a different brand of foundation if your current one makes you look like that. Are you using the solid or liquid kind? Maybe try a different shade? It is expensive, but I've heard really good things about it.
But you could always buy a cheaper one.
But what this'll do is help prevent it from looking cakey/oily throughout the day. [ GhoulOnParade's advice column | Ask GhoulOnParade A Question ]
xokristabelle answered Wednesday January 21 2009, 11:52 am: You have to apply both foundation (mineral or regular) and translucent powder to make it last. For both, I love Bare Minerals, it's totally natural looking and doesn't cake or anything (and you only have to use a tiny bit, so it lasts forever). Their Mineral Veil finishing powder is amazing. If you're not willing to spend as much, Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation and L'oreal Bare Naturale Matte Translucent Powder are good, too. Bring your powder with you to school and do a touch up at lunch- first blot, then powder. Part of the cakey problem is probably that you're putting too much on. Also, try a thin layer of translucent powder before you apply the foundation to keep oily skin under control. [ xokristabelle's advice column | Ask xokristabelle A Question ]

This is a toughy. I say go to sephora or even macy's and tell them your delima and see what they can do for you.
turtle479 answered Wednesday January 21 2009, 9:24 am: The Dream Matte Mousse by Loreal is really nice. If you put it on them set it with powder it should stay on most of the day, and it doesn't melt off under fluorescent lighting as bad as some of the liquid make-up.
Also why don't you try going to a professional and getting their opinion. Day Spas and upscale hair salons often have professionals that actually know what they're doing. [unlike some of those people at the clinique counter who only want to sell you every product possible] You might try getting a consultation with someone like that. day spas could also do facials for you as well that may help with your uneven-ness.
