4 year difference...

Question Posted Saturday January 3 2009, 2:03 am

so im 18/f

i have friends, but its that i commute to college, and i only talk to like two of my friends from high school.

i've been talking to this girl, emily. she use to go out with my cousin. she is in 9th grade though, in high schoool. i'm a freshman collge. the thing is, she gets me. she is the only one who understands whats going on in my life, because she is going through something similar too. i just feel weird hanging out with her though. i dont want people to be like wow she is hanging out with a freshman from high school, you know? but i love the girl, she is like becoming one of my close friends! like i said, i can trust her and i know she wont judge me. thats hard to find. but in my mind, i always feel like people think i dont have friends and i'm a loser for hanging out with a freshman. and i mean i really want to hang out with her, she is a nice girl and so what am i to say? oh i cant hang out with you because your like four years younger than me? NO! i want to hang out with her, but i feel stupid at the same time.

any thoughts, suggestions, comments, ANYTHING!?

My best friend is 3 years younger than me. Im a sophmore in college and shes a junior in high school. For about the first two years of us being friends, i felt the same way. I finally realized that it doesnt matter. If other ppl think its weird, then sucks for them. A friendship like that is hard to find, and its not something you should give up just because of what other people will think. If i didnt continue to be friends with my friend, 16 and im 19, then id be miserable. Age really is just a number.

its simple.....she's your friend....the age shouldnt matter......i'm in my second year of college and i still hang out with my friends from high school even though i'm 19 and some of them are 17....age dosnt matter.....ya it feels weird when you go out to the bar and that certain friend cant go but most of the time when that hapens you either do things without them sometimes or you just stay home and have a house party to include them.....but you shouldnt feel stupid if your older then her...if she gets you...then she's probably more mature and same level as you intelectually anyways.

well i think that it is a good thing that you found a friend that is younger than you. you shouldnt be ashamed because the best friend that she is becoming is hard to find. no matter what age you will only have a few great friends in life dont lose that over an age difference

With friendship, age is just a number. Make other friends your own age, but never sacrifice someone you care about because of what other people think.

People are friends for a lot of reasons.
If you have a lot in common, don't let
the age difference get in the way! There
probably won't be a need to often say,
"This is my friend Emily, shes just a
freshman in high school". Shes just
your friend Emily.

You will have to remember that she is
underage for drinking and that sort of
thing. Don't get her in trouble! Other
than that, enjoy the friendship. True
friends are hard to find, don't let
one get away!

I dont think you should care what other people think about what your doing if you trust this girl and love to talk to her then it shouldnt matter what people say about you they obviously dont have anything better to do if they pay more attention to you then there own life just do what you want and you should be fine dont care about people around you just focus on your girl and you. :D
