No website poll, questionnaire, quiz, chart, or list of symptoms can tell you whether you have any kind of illness. This is especially so of mental illness.

A psychiatrist is the only person who could diagnose you or tell you that you are at risk. Even though these illnesses run in your family they often aren't hereditary. The websites you are frequenting or books you are reading will only serve to frighten you.

There's really no problem or threat of one right now. You have nothing to worry about unless a psychiatrist tells you differently.

Signs of a problem with bipolar/ schizophrenia includes having delusions, racing thoughts, lacking a true concept of reality, constant thoughts of death, illusions of grandeur and feeling as though you control the world. Your moods will also cycle with bipolar from depression, feeling high, elated and crashing without warning.

If none of this is happening to you right now then don't worry yourself about it. Just because another family member or multiple have had problems with it doesn't mean you ever will. You don't have to accept that idea even which would be smart.

I'm sure your family knows the signs of these two illnesses to know what to do if they suspected it in anyone. For now don't worry about what ifs or any of this.

If you want to read books on it there is Bipolar for Dummies which really encompasses everything about the illness. You should also look at the Canadian and American Mental Health Association sites as they'll have lists of resources to check out.

There was and or still is a magazine called BP for Bipolar sufferers. If you look up "bipolar", "manic depression" or "schizophrenia" on Google you'll get thousands of links.

The problem is not all of them contain truth and a lot have inaccuracies. You should go on Wikipedia and punch in "celebrities who have..." and you'll see that there's a ton of well-known people with both illnesses.

Bottom line if you ever did contract either illness you'll be in the same boat as them. 1 in 4 people know of someone with a mental illness and 1 in 9 have one. If you learn about them, don't fear them and about stigma from this to help your family it will be worth having asked this question.

So, if you aren't experiencing any of the tendencies associated with the disease don't worry about it or what the future holds. In all likelihood no matter what family members have it doesn't mean you will. It's often not hereditary.

Honestly, if you have one of those then you'll know by your symptoms. If you don't have any symptoms then there is no way to diagnose it besides a dna test that would be performed by a doctor, however it is doubtful that any doctor would perform that.you or someone you know would have most likely noticed symptoms in you and taken you to a doctor if you did. These things are diagnosed by symptoms, so if they aren't present now then the only way you will know is as time passes.

Hope this helped!

That site has some tests, but it clearly says it's for entertainment purposes only.

If you're honestly worried about it, the best thing you can do is see a doctor. Online tests are never 100% accurate.

See if you have the same symtems you're family that has the sickness, start by that, if you do you need to be examined by the doctor that treats you're family, and see what the examenation reveals.

the problem with self diagnosis is that they very often come out positive. the only way to get accurate results is from a professional.
