alrighty well you might actually not be eating right it sounds stupid but its true if your not eating the right kind of food then your body wont let you function normally or maybe its because you over exauste yourself and then your body has to much adrenaline to let you sleep

The over the counter sleep medications are basically just benedryl and sometimes that plus tylenol. It doesn't really solve the problem though. It may be a good idea to see a doctor and get checked out.

If you do drink or eat anything with caffine, try not to after 5:00 PM in the afternoon. Keep your room dark and cooler which will stimulate the natural production of Melatonin (the sleep hormone) So no nightlight/hall light or street lights should shine in your room.

You may be stressing about getting up so early--and actually that is preventing you from going to sleep. Turn your clock backwards and don't continiously check it. If you normally go to bed at let's say midnight, start going to bed an hour to a half hour earlier for a week, then the next week earlier than that, and so on. Some people need to program their body to sleep at certain times. Also if you can, try to keep the same schedule on the weekend or your days off.

Ughhh no kidding! Ive got the same problem only its like, I get a full twelve hours of sleep one night and just two hours the next.
It turns out that actually this is NORMAL! Ahhh was that a shock. I thought that I was gonna die or something. Yes, my sleep pattern was just that bad. Here are a few links to brush up on it.
definitely worth the reading. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Chomamile tea with a bit of honey is grreat before bed. I like Celestial Seasonings 'sleepy time tea'. Alsoo, I take melatonin. You can buy it at WalMart or your local drugstore. Its an essential supplement or something that a lot of teens tend to lose. SOO go find some.
Its best to take it one or two hours before bed. Ignore what the label says, kid. Ive seen over three different doctors on this debacle alone O.O
[[no exaggeration]]
And we teens may actually need our cell phones and myspace accounts. I read an article in TeenVogue stating that people who have been cut off from their 'lifelines' can get a bit depressed and feel left out. In the hustling bustling world we live in, everything changes. Its only human to want to be aware of whats happening, whats important, and feel the need to adapt. Its practically instinct!
And yes. I am assuming you are a human. Correct me if im wrong xD

I understand you're situation because I always had the same problem.
One thing I fully recommend is for you to try and take Yoga classes. I'm not trying to promote yoga to anyone, but I recently took it as a summer school class and found that it really helps calming people down. There is an exercise called Savasana which is meant for clearing the mind and calming the body.
What you want to do is lay down on your back, arms by your side, and legs straight. Close your eyes and stop thinking-I know that sounds so hard to do, but even if you push from thought after thought telling yourself not to think, you're still relaxing your mind. Remember that this is not a time for you to judge yourself or plan what you're going to do afterwards, just a time for you to relax. What I do to not think is kinda picture different colors that go along with light music in the background. Sometimes people fall asleep while doing this so I think it might be good for you.

As for your sleeping aids, I hope you are getting them by prescription from your doctor because I feel like that is a way to stay independent from them since your doctor knows what is wrong with you and how long you will need to take them.

I hope this is the type of information you wanted.
With Love,
Kori

Disconnected answered Thursday July 24 2008, 5:25 am:
I used to have the same problem about a year ago.
I was tired as s*it but just couldn't sleep until about 3am.
What I did was I drank a big glass of warm milk an hour before I got into bed.
During the day I was telling myself that I would try to get to sleep at 1am (I took it in small steps, not from 3am to 12pm).
I also didn't listen to music or watch tv for an hour and a half before I went into bed.
I tried to stay calm, relaxed and I was telling myself when I intended to fall asleep.

Try this, might work for you too.
