I have a boston terrier that's about 5 years old, and a new kitten. And well, my dog likes to get into the cat litter box, and eat the uhm...dung. =/ and my mother knew a woman that her dog use to do that, and it ended up getting liver cancer. and we can't move the litter box..and i was wondering if they made something to like...spray on the litter pan, so the dog wouldn't go near it?
orphans answered Wednesday February 13 2008, 4:54 pm: okay, well there is this stuff that is sour and you spray it on whatever your dog is trying to get at, it is a kind of long white skinny container with green writing, and a picture of a dog on it. You can purchase it at any pet store and if you cant find anything there (which you should) then you can also call your local veternarian, and ask them what to do and what product to use.

ps
the person under me is right (i just read the rest of the people's answers...) its called like bitter apple spray or something, i used it for my dog, because he was a little rebel! :-]
divatothemax01 answered Wednesday February 13 2008, 12:40 pm: um. kay well firstly. maybe put a little gate were the litter box is so that the kitten can stay in that room with the litter box while the dog cant get in there, you know.?
secondly, they have this stuff call like.
something like bitter apple spray. and it prevents animals from biting, chewing, eating, or licking whatever it is that you spray it on.
maybe you could like spray it in the cat box..?
also theres this thing that comes from the same place as the electric fence company but instead its just like a little plate thing and yeah. it does the same thing as an electric fence but for inside. you just put the little saucer plate thing (whatever it is) whereever you dont want your dog to goo.
you might wanna look into that. you could put it near the cat box and whenever the dog tries to go over to it, the thing gives it a warning and then it zaps the dog so it cant get into it.
youd have to train it a bit with the fence. whatever.
orphans answered Wednesday February 13 2008, 12:38 pm: Oh this same thing happend to me. What I did was feed my cat a small piece of black licorice every day for about 2 months. After a few days the dog tasted the poop of the cat and thought it was horrible, so after a while he just stop trying to eat it. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

Try to keep the litter box in an area where the kitten can access it, but it can still be under close watch. Every time you catch your dog getting into it, pull him out and give him a firm "NO." If that doesn't get you anywhere, keep telling him "NO" but then try spritzing water in his face. I know that sounds mean, but it's just water and it will help him to get the point.
