Okay so, my friend does hooka. I know it's a drug, but it's legal if you are 19 or something...right? Well, she is 15 and her and some of her other friends went to the hooka bar. [never been there in my life cuz i'm not that kinda girl] She told me she wasn't gonna do it again, just a one time thing because she was curious...well, turns out she's doing it again next Saturday. And she was trying to entice me to do it, saying stuff like, "It was sooo relaxing, and it made you kinda dizzy. But then you went to the dancefloor and partied and everything, it was great!" and "you should try it, it would be cool of you." and I was just like..."nahh, I'm good." The I asked her if she was hooked on it, and she was like no...you can't get hooked on hooka. Is that true? [not that I am going to try it..ever.]
But now...you ahve to understand this, she has never been a druggie in her life! And she is now doing hooka, and she just told me that tomorrow she is trying weed. Like wtf, she is turning into a druggie, and I'm friends with some, so it's not like I'm against all of them, but why ruin your life? and why is she trying to get me to do all these drugs when I tell her NO?! I don't know why I'm mad at her, I feel betrayed, she said she wouldn't do that stuff, but next thing you know shes going to hooka bars and smoking weed. I need advice, I need SOMETHING, ANYTHING! comments or whatever would be great. thanks in super advance.
Hooka is safer than cigarettes on many levels and, while you do ingest more smoke, it is not as chemical-laden as cigarette tobacco and thus less dangerous. You do not ingest, as one article claimed, 100 to 200 cigarettes worth of smoke using a hooka. That would require a MUCH larger amount of tobacco and an intense amount of puffing.
To tell you the truth, weed is actually one of the most harmless drugs, mainly because it isn't physically addictive and doesn't encourage particularly frequent use like cigarettes. Marijuana and tobacco combined are a BAD combination. That is the major thing I would warn your friend about. Supposedly the combo is just a death sentence for your lungs. Besides that marijuana is actually less dangerous to handle than cigarettes. [ Dreau_Preau's advice column | Ask Dreau_Preau A Question ]
SL answered Friday February 22 2008, 10:25 pm: Hookah is not a drug. Hookah is just flavored tobacco. Yes, someone can get "addicted" to hookah but its not hookah that theyre addicted to, its the small traces of nicotine in the tobacco- therefore its the same as being addicted to a cigarette but, shisha (hookah tobacco) doesnt contain the same chemicals that cigarettes do (rat poison, etc.). The only reason it would make a person dizzy to smoke hookah is if they're to inhale too much too fast and you get light headed for a minute. It's really no big deal. Doing hookah does NOT make you a druggie. Hookah is NOT a drug. Infact, it is a large part of mid-easter culture- Hookah is very common in egypt, syria, israel, india, etc. Weed is subjective. Its not bad for you. No one has ever died of an overdose. Infact, alcohol is worse for you- short and long term- than marijuana. Smoking weed does not ruin your life. Its just the decisions you make which do. Despite common misconception, weed doesnt "make you lazy" or "make you dumb"- many people function the same high as when they're not. It just relaxes you therefore people dont want to do anything. I hope this helps you? [ SL's advice column | Ask SL A Question ]
orphans answered Wednesday January 30 2008, 6:00 pm: Well, I do not know much about hooka, but GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! It takes alot of courage to tell someone know, especially when they pressure you. You unfortunetly cant make them stop, but you can be there for them. Encourage them not to do it anymore, but if they ask you to go do it, just either say you have other plans if they keep asking, or just tell them that you dont want to do it, and you NEVER will do it. I know how you feel, I am straight edged- and i would never drink or do that either. Just be proud of yourself for standing up and saying no. They'r decision is their own. In school, especially high school you are going to find that a lot, but just because they smoke pot, doesnt mean you cant be friends with them. Just as long as you stay strong to what you believe in, and they dont get mad at YOU for not doing it with them. If they do, clearly they are not good friends. :-]

nmggrant answered Wednesday January 30 2008, 2:31 am: Hooka is flavored tabacco and nothing more...it won't make you dizzy or lightheaded...it's not pot. It's just legal tabacco and you have to be 18 to smoke it...your friend could have gotten a citation and the bar could be shut down for serving minors with tabacco...Hooka is not a drug... Brandi_S answered Monday January 28 2008, 11:23 pm: **EDIT** Smoking weed and smoking a hookah are 2 different things. I'm just trying to explain to you what a HOOKAH is, and that it is not illegal.
Sorry if that isn't what you wanted to hear.

Like said below, you smoke a tobacco in a hookah. My husband owns a hookah.
What is smoked in it is a tobacco blended with molasses and flavoring. The tobacco my husband has actually smells and tastes like Kool-aid.
It does give you a funny head feeling, but that is most likely due to the amount of tobacco smoke you are sucking into your lungs in a short period of time. Tobacco rush- one gets that also from cigarettes, cigars, chew, and any other form of tobacco product.
No worries, she isn't a druggie, and she isn't smoking anything illegal unless she is of minor age.
clouded_bluee answered Monday January 28 2008, 10:38 pm: Just to let you know Hookah is not a drug nor is it illegal. It is more like a flavored tobacco. This is just like a ciggarette, so I'm guessing in my state that is, that you have to be 18 to smoke. But, I've also heard there is really no set age.
Many many people smoke hookah, mostly it is associated with the arabic or muslim cultures, but other people do smoke it.
Don't be worried about your friend, it is not like weed. And she isn't turning into a 'druggie' by smoking the hookah.
If you don't want to smoke it, then don't, it's your life, just like it is hers. She makes her own decisions and she has to deal with the out comes.
Don't think just because someone experients with something new that they're going to be hooked on it. Most everyone experiments things every once in a while.
honeysugar93 answered Monday January 28 2008, 10:19 pm: maybe she is just experimenting with these "drugs." i wouldnt be upset with her. i would just tell her that your 100% not interested in trying drugs with her bc you know what it does to your life and you dont want to get involved with it. tell her its best for her health if she not do things involving drugs and things she knows is wrong. drugs are a total no but weed and hooka are not as bad as it gets. if she starts doing worse drugs than those and you fear her life then let someone know to help her. possibly her parents. you may lose a friend for a while but eventually she will appriciate that she had a friend that was willing to help her. i hope everything works out and i hope that was some help. :)
ps. and if you lose a friend at least you know you cared. plus friends dont pressure friends into doing things they dont want to. she should accept that you want to stay clean. [ honeysugar93's advice column | Ask honeysugar93 A Question ]
