hymens.. tampons..?

Question Posted Wednesday January 16 2008, 10:02 pm

Hey, My friend is having a tough time convincing her mother she's still a virgin (she's not).. but the problem is that the boy.. well man.. is 24 and she's 16. But, anyway, that's not the issue at stake. She was thinking about telling the gyno that her hymen was broken by a tampon, not a penis. But I'm not even sure if that's possible. Can it be broken by a tampon? Also, can being fingered break it?

Thanks so much
xo

::Edit::

Your friend needs to realize that her mother cant force this. Your friend has a right to speak privately to her doctor. All she has to do is say "No mother, you can't come in with me" and follow it with "I'm not going to talk to the gyno in front of you"

Her mother can't force the issue, your friend can simply tell the gyno that she would like to speak to him/her alone and your mother is refusing. Usually a gyno will have a conversation with the parent and ask them to leave.

::close edit::

Yes, she can claim a tampon did it.

Worst case, she can say she used a brush handle or something to masturbate.

When the gyno visit comes, your friend should tell her mom that she wants to go into the Gyno's office alone. Reasons can include wanting to be grown up, she doesnt need mommy to hold her hand, none of mom's business, embarrassed to talk about that stuff in front of mom, have questions about period (and embarrassed about it), etc.

The gyno should be told the truth when alone and told that she should not disclose the fact that your friend is sexually active to your mother.

A sidenote, a guy being 24 doesnt automatically make him a man.

yes and yes.both questions are yes.because they were inserted into her.your hymen is so small that anything can easily break.evenriding a bike or sitting down wrong.

Yes, either are possible, but your friend SHOULD NOT LIE TO A DOCTOR.

You should never, ever, lie to a doctor. They can't tell your parents anything you don’t want told and they need all the information to treat you properly.

Lying to a doctor is stupid, and it's asking for trouble.

Your friend is free to be an irresponsible lying daughter, but being irresponsible and lying to a health care professional is idiotic and could put her in danger. Please tell her so.

Your friend is going to have to tell the doctor the truth. They are required to keep patient confidentiality by law, so her mother wont find out. However, it's bad hiding things like losing your virginity from mom anyways. But if I was 16 and my boyfriend was 24, I wouldn't want anyone to know we were having sex either. To answer your question though, hymens are very fragile and can be broken easily with a tampon or a finger. What your friend should be worried about is her 24 year old boyfriend getting in trouble with the law for having sex with a child. Well good luck, and I hope things work out for your friend. -Angel

Her trying to 'convince' her Mom she's still a virgin is bad news. That's just brings bad stuff her way.

Yes. The hymen is nothing more than a thin membrane. It can be broken by riding a bike and slipping, riding a horse, etc. Bottom line, the hymen is very fragile.

Also it's not a good thing to lie to the gynecologist. For them to treat you properly, you need to be upfront and honest, even if you don't want to be. The last thing they are going to do is judge you, they are just trying to find out if something is wrong.

She's going to have to tell the gyno that she's sexually active [if she is] it's the wise thing to do..

The hymen can be broken by doing sports, horseback riding, tampon use and masturbation. most girls don't even know their hymen is broken and the gyno doesn't ask how. they will probably ask if you're sexually active.

her mom doesn't have to be the in same room as the gyno. just tell her to say i'm not comfortable with you here blah.
