i just had a poptart today. and after eating it, i was on the verge of tears..i was SO worried about how fat I would get. i started FREAKING out and crying over the 400 calories...i dunno why. i'm really lost when i'm around food. i tell myself, NO don't eat that, it'll make you fat. but sometimes i still do eat it, and i drive myself nuts over it. sometimes, i could starve for an entire day. and sometimes, i eat something, feel guilty about it, and after chewing it, i spit it out. food just drives me insane. i can't eat anything without worrying. i don't even EAT AFTER SIX. Why am I so worried? I move and I exercise but...I can't stop worrying about gaining weight.
I'm 5'6 and 140 pounds. normal/average-sized.
should I stop worrying? =(

i went through this exact same thing and im not fat at all... i was belimic. a lot of teens go through this sort of thing and it can get pretty bad. your probably worrying cos you dont want to get fat or gain weight and thats normal. everyone worrys about getting fat... after getting better i still worry about that every day! it think its something that wont stop worrying about. but if you excercise every day then you can eat anything you want and you wont put on weight so you shouldnt worry. you can over come this you just have to want to and to try to... if it gets reawlly bad you should seek help cos you can get really sick from this.
why dont you try and eat healthy food cos you wont gain weight from that and you dnt have to feel guilty about eating it. start off eating little bits of food at a time so your body can get used to eating again. if it gets bad you should get help and if you dnt want to straight away you could tell your school counciler or a close friend. hope i help xx sally [ sally91's advice column | Ask sally91 A Question ]
The_MoUsY_spell_checker answered Thursday December 20 2007, 5:17 am: Yes, you should definitely stop worrying about your weight. You need food to stay alive.
If you're worried about gaining weight, go ahead and avoid junk food, but do eat normal meals. You do need nutritious food like fruit, vegetables, bread (wholegrain is better), rice, and lean meat (unless you're vegetarian).
Remember, if you starve yourself, it can cause problems with your metabolism, and your body will try to store more fat, so make sure you eat when you're hungry.

If you're constantly tormenting yourself about calories/fat gained/etc. I would do the right thing for your health and maybe seek out some counseling as soon as possible. (A friend, a professional counselor, etc.) If left untreated you could find yourself in a downward spiral to being unfit! And don't let someone else your age tell you that it's normal. People your age are also vulnerable to the same thoughts and ideas that you are. Enjoy life. Eat enough and eat healthy. Good luck! [ crysathen's advice column | Ask crysathen A Question ]
