Question Posted Saturday December 8 2007, 12:45 pm
i'm very worried about my grades in school. i'm a f/sophomore.
i have all honors and a.p classes...i usually get very good grades, and last report card, got all As and Bs.
this grading period...two of my grades are slipping to Cs...and I don't know how to pull them up..i try my best. i just can't do well in those subjects. and this makes me hate myself...really badly =| i don't know what to do..i really do try. and the worst part..is that i know i'm smart, but i see other people doing better than me and it just makes me hate myself even more! i used to be one of those students that always got the highest score...but its as if i got lazy and i'm on a hiatus or something.
what can I do in this situation? I know that i can do better. but there are way too many distractions.
i guess this could be called "smart person's block"
lol. please help. anyone with the same experience?

The more you beat yourself up mentally and emotionally for this, the worse it will become, I promise you! Now, that's not an excuse to do nothing. But don't feel like a failure because you're going thru a down time. I was the exact same way thru high school. I only excelled at the subjects I enjoyed, and I didn't bother to even do the work in anything I didn't! I was also in honors classes and I knew I could do better, but I just couldn't focus on anything I didn't enjoy. I didn't manage to apply myself until my senior year when I realized I'd never get into college without scholarships and I had to have the grades for those. Suddenly I found the motivation I make it happen. Now I've reached the goal I've had since junior high; I teach high school English. Don't wait as long as I did to find your motivation. Figure out what it is that's holding you back; boredom, difficult subjects, lack of focus, etc., and try to find a way to work thru it. But hating yourself for what you're going thru will only hold you back even more. Be proud to be smart, for one. I admit, I was the kid who did academic team competetions my junior and senior year. I finally realized how great it is to be smart, because intelligence lasts beyone high school and can take you somewhere. You have the ability to be the student you want to be, just find your focus again, and NEVER hesitate to ask for help, from classmates, teachers, anyone, if a subject is difficult, It's only by questioning that we continue to learn. Hope I helped a little. I wish you all the luck in the world with everything you do. [ genericusername07's advice column | Ask genericusername07 A Question ]
DOA0129 answered Saturday December 8 2007, 9:55 pm: Me myself sometimes is in that position except that i don't feel angry to my self when i get low, just worried. i feel this way because a lot of people ( mostly my classmates) say that I'm smart. So i cared to my grades because it is like already my reputation.
So now that it's getting harder, i ask help to my classmates that are good at that subject and sometimes you could ask help from your teachers to explain again, you could also do research. Just relax cuz you can't be good to all subject you can't always get. Just do what you can do but try harder, but don't pressure yourself. When your already pressured try to do something fun before you go back to study.
Sorry if my advice is very long [ DOA0129's advice column | Ask DOA0129 A Question ]

It sucks that I have to pay for the class again to re take it. But now I know what I need work on and to get someone to help me with math.
You didn’t say what class subject you are stuck on but I say to go to googgle.com and type in homework help. I saw a ton of website.
dATSEXiiMAMii4U answered Saturday December 8 2007, 5:15 pm: well i have sort of the same problem i am very smart in school but i just dont seem to understand global and science as much as my other subjects. I have spoken to my teachers and asked them what could i do to bring up my grades. They suggested going to tutoring, and with everytime i go i get extra credit this has helped me out alot. I suggest you talk to your teacher and they might have something for you to do to bring up your grade.
