i'm very worried about my grades in school. i'm a f/sophomore.
i have all honors and a.p classes...i usually get very good grades, and last report card, got all As and Bs.
this grading period...two of my grades are slipping to Cs...and I don't know how to pull them up..i try my best. i just can't do well in those subjects. and this makes me hate myself...really badly =| i don't know what to do..i really do try. and the worst part..is that i know i'm smart, but i see other people doing better than me and it just makes me hate myself even more! i used to be one of those students that always got the highest score...but its as if i got lazy and i'm on a hiatus or something.
what can I do in this situation? I know that i can do better. but there are way too many distractions.

i guess this could be called "smart person's block"
lol. please help. anyone with the same experience? (link)
DON'T be so hard on yourself!!!! The more you beat yourself up mentally and emotionally for this, the worse it will become, I promise you! Now, that's not an excuse to do nothing. But don't feel like a failure because you're going thru a down time. I was the exact same way thru high school. I only excelled at the subjects I enjoyed, and I didn't bother to even do the work in anything I didn't! I was also in honors classes and I knew I could do better, but I just couldn't focus on anything I didn't enjoy. I didn't manage to apply myself until my senior year when I realized I'd never get into college without scholarships and I had to have the grades for those. Suddenly I found the motivation I make it happen. Now I've reached the goal I've had since junior high; I teach high school English. Don't wait as long as I did to find your motivation. Figure out what it is that's holding you back; boredom, difficult subjects, lack of focus, etc., and try to find a way to work thru it. But hating yourself for what you're going thru will only hold you back even more. Be proud to be smart, for one. I admit, I was the kid who did academic team competetions my junior and senior year. I finally realized how great it is to be smart, because intelligence lasts beyone high school and can take you somewhere. You have the ability to be the student you want to be, just find your focus again, and NEVER hesitate to ask for help, from classmates, teachers, anyone, if a subject is difficult, It's only by questioning that we continue to learn. Hope I helped a little. I wish you all the luck in the world with everything you do.

I'd really like to start a teen book club (maybe with around 10 members, give or take a few).

Any ideas how I can start this? (link)
I know this answer comes kind of late, I just saw your question. First of all, talk to friends and see if you can find a few people who might be interested in participating in your book club. Then, talk to a teacher at your school you're comfortable with, English, Writing, and History teachers are good to start with for a book club and see if they can help you by talking to their classes and finding more people interested. You can also talk to your school librarian, or the public library, they promote book clubs of all kinds and are usually very willing to help out with this. Find out about putting up fliers in your school or the library. I teach English in high school and I commend you for your motivation to put something like this together! I would help you or sponsor the club if you were my student, so talk to these types of people, many would be glad to help someone with the desire and drive to make this happen! Best wishes for all you do!

okay, so far... i hate advanced English, lol. i have the most hardest teacher, it's really hard for me to keep up with the work. right now, we're on winter break, but ill be ending next Monday. and I'm supposed to be done reading "A Tale of Two Cities" By Charles Dickens. there's about 390 pages in that book, and right now, i'm on page.. 97. Everybody that's in my class is ahead of me.. right now they're on "Book Three" and I'm on "Book Two" it's really hard for me to concentrate on the book... i mean i have no idea what's going on in it.. i hear about this one character.. and then the next chapter is about a different character. so i get confused, so I'm like "wait, what? who's the main character? who's this & that?" and not just that... i also tend to almost fall asleep on the book. have you ever had that feeling when you're reading something and all the sudden you can't concentrate, and music is playing in your head..? that happens to me alot.. and i try soooo hard to focus on the book. I also have a project due next Wednesday on the book. and i have to choreograph a dance with my friend for my exam also.

i'm not very good on schedules it's hard for me to keep up with them.. is there a way where i can be able to focus on the book, and finish it on time? also to help me stay awake while reading it? (link)
Okay, this is coming from someone with a Masters Degree in literature and a high school English teacher, and I've always had one bit of advie on this subject. (Forgive the "language") "Dickens Sucks!!" He's long, dry, boring, and depressing, and if I had the option to never teach it, I'd be a happy person! So, this is what I've got for you. Dickens is an unfortunate aspect of high school English, and you just have to muddle thru. Keep at it. I personally cannot write a paper without music in the background, and I usually have it on when I read. But TV is the most distracting thing in the world to me. With TV, there's dialogue and plot to distract you, where as music in something you don't have to focus on. It helps me to stay focused because complete silence causes my mind to drift off like you've described.
And on that subject: I have a very great deal of trouble staying focused, keeping schedules, being organized, being on time, etc. I suffer from severe ADD. What you have described here are classic symptoms of ADD. Now, I'm NOT a doctor, so I'm not giving you any medical advice here, but I really want you to check online, with real medical sites, and read about ADD. Many offer checklists that can give you an idea if this is something you should talk to your doctor about. Look into it, please, and if you think it's a possibility you should look into further, discuss it with your parents, show them what you've read, and talk to your doctor. ADD is a very common problem, it is classified as a learning disability, and don't buy into the negative stereotype about those words! It's something that can greatly affect your life and be difficult to live with if untreated, but when properly treated, it can make all the difference in the world! Like I said, I'm not a doctor, just someone who still deals everyday with ADD, with great success. I'm proud to say I've overcome my problems for the most part, and it made all the difference in my career.
Just hang in there! Dickens should be the worst of it, the most boring of all things you'll have to get thru. It does get much better. Talk to classmates, your teacher, ask questions without fear of what anyone thinks. It's your grade, not theirs, so don't let your grades suffer because your afraid of what anyone else thinks! Always question, its the only way we learn!
Hope I helped a little. Feel free to ask me questions as well, I'm willing to help you if I can. Best of luck to you with all things in your future!

I dont look forward to going to school. I was wondering if there was anything i could do during the week (after school) to look forward to that way i could get through the day easier and look forward to the next day every day. (link)
I don't know what type of things you're interested in, but I was very much the same as you in school. (I now teach high school English)I was a "smart kid," whatever that means, but I didn't like much about school, I hated homework, and seldom did my work in any class I didn't enjoy. It was my other in-school and after school activities that saved me. I loved art, theater, and creative writing. I acted in, directed, and worked behind the scenes in every way in drama and my love of that is what got me thru. I looked forward to being in those classes and in the plays and art competetions, and I couldn't be involved in those if I didn't keep my grades up, so that was my main motivation to go to school and do my work. Find something you can enjoy at school and get involved in. Most schools have so many interesting elective classes, after school activities, clubs, and organizations that appeal to so many different interests. It all pays off in the long run, I promise. I loved every aspect of college, by the way. It's not like high school, and though I hated most of high school, I had no problem enjoying and excelling in college. Best wishes for your future. I wish you all the luck in the world. Just stick with it, life is so much better after high school!

i get horrible cramps right before and during my period. what can i do to make them not hurt so much. i have had to stay home from school like every 2 months when it comes. (link)
I know it's been a while since you asked this question, but I just stumbled upon it. I used to have cramps so severe that I would vomit, pass out, and scream with the pain, often in public places such as the campus of the university I was attending. I was put on birth control finally and it helped more than I could ever explain. And nobody should ever be ashamed to ask for birth control, no matter if it's because they are sexually active or because many people find relief from the horrible pain they endure with cramps. I felt odd about starting on birth control when I was engaged at the time and still a virgin, afraid my fiance would think I was cheating or something, but I realized that the chance to help with the humiliating public situations I endured for years was worth any fear of asking for the pill. You talk about staying home from school, I don't know how old you are or what your family is like, but if you're young, don't be afraid of talking to your parents about this either. You can show them medical articles online to help you with that conversation.
Sorry this is so long, but I want to help you because I "feel your pain." (that was terrible, I know)
Lastly, I also use heating pads, microwave ones are great because their portable. Evening primrose oil also works, as someone else suggested. You can find it in most drugstores in capsules, or health food stores. I also am a firm believer in the benefits of essential oils, and cederwood, chamomile, rose otto or rose absolute, lavender, tangerine, and bergamont are all wonderful for cramps and PMS. Find pure essential oils at health stores... pure oils are theraputic and not at all the same as lavender or rose lotion and body sprays out there. Cederwood, rose, and lavender mix well, are calming and reduce muscle contractions. Rose, lavender, and chamomile are very relaxing to the body and mind and mix well. Bergamont and tangerine mix well and are stress reducing and uplifting and help with PMS and smell sweet, fruity and fun as well. Chamomile tea also works wonders. But the one thing that provides me almost instant relief when I do still occasionally have a rough period in a yoga pose called downward (facing) dog. You get on the floor on your knees, stretch your arms out in front of you, and lay your arms and head down against the floor. Look online under yoga for a picture of the pose. It takes all pressure off your belly and this has saved me many times. (it's also a sure fire way to relieve painful gas, just a weird fyi, but anyone trying this you might want to be alone because it relieves it by helping to pass it, so in very plain words, be prepared to fart! Yep, I said it.) I'm not some new age granola eating hippie, (no insult to anyone, and I do dig on granola, just using a cliche here to make a point, i'm actually a natural remedy, organic product using, high school teaching old-school punk rocker, but anyway...)my point being, I really believe in the benefits of the things I'm saying here.
Sorry, sorry, sorry again for the length of my answer, but I really hope this might help you some. I saved myself a ton of very painful and often humiliating experiences using these methods. Best of luck to you with this, and with all things.
