Jeanne answered Monday December 3 2007, 3:13 am: It depends on which sperm fertilizes the egg. If the sperm has an X chromosome, the baby will be a girl. If it has a Y chromosome, then the baby will be a boy.
There actually are medical procedures that can be used to select the gender of a baby. This is usually done to avoid passing down a certain genetic disorder or disease that's linked to a certain sex. And some people use gender selection procedures for "Family Balancing"... for instance, if they already have a couple boys, and now they want a girl. But this is controversial; some people feel it's wrong to mess with nature just because you want a certain gender. [ Jeanne's advice column | Ask Jeanne A Question ]
orphans answered Sunday December 2 2007, 6:14 pm: each sperm is either xx (girl) or xy (boy). so you know how there are like milions sperms released when the guy ejaculates? well theres only one egg, and whichever one gets there first fertalizes it. and each sperm is either xx or xy. because not all can find the egg, and not all can make it there, and some "die." thats what my mom told me
so you cant choose. its all chance! [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
hollister_lover09 answered Sunday December 2 2007, 1:45 pm: You cant be like oh I want a girl. That cant happen. But the gender is picked by the way the chromosomes match up. They dont really decide, it just happens. But really, the guys chromosomes make the baby a girl or boy. And the girls, make how many babies. =D [ hollister_lover09's advice column | Ask hollister_lover09 A Question ]

dancedance42 answered Sunday December 2 2007, 1:39 pm: the male sex cell.
The woman contributes an x because the female gene is XX and the male contributes either and x or a y because the male's is XY
XY = boy
XX = girl
so you cant decide what gender your baby is, its the luck of the draw :]
