My boyfriend has acne, just like me. I'm not sure how to help him though since mine has cleared up more since I'm on BC [only thing that worked besides proactive]. I don't know what type of acne he has anyway. He's rather pale and his face is a bit pink/red :] So his acne is.. just many bumps with no white heads or anything. Sometimes he does get a normal zit with a white head. [Which is all I get, so I'm not sure how to help with the bumpy texture] It's all over on the bottom of his cheeks and chin, so any tips/advice? I think his most concern is his skin color. How do you get rid of the redness?
Any advice/tips? Please don't say proactive [not everyone can afford it]. Preferably something you used & gave great results with bumpy skin.
All I can give him is Clearasil Ultra products. Do you think that would work for the "acne" ? I have the on spot treatment, deep pore cleansing pads and daily face wash?
He's talked to me about his skin like 5 times so far so I guess it's his way of wanting my help. :]

If he has moderate to severe acne, he should see a dermatologist for recommendations, since sometimes it takes more than over-counter products to do the trick. He could start using clearasil pads regularly, and see how that works. But often times harsh ingredients aggravate the skin, leading to more breakouts. I would recommend that for daily use, he washes his face with a gentler cleanser, like Cetaphil (comes in gentle formula, or normal to oily). A lot of dermatologists recommend that, as it doesn't make acne worse. He could also try using accutane or
some cream with glycolic acid (at the derm), which would make him more sun-sensitive, so he'd have to use sunblock. In my experience, I tend to break out more if i overdo it, and use harsher products than what i need. I use a simple/fragrance free facewash (liquid neutrogena). I also use Witch Hazel formula astringent, which is all natural and non-drying. You would not believe how much gunk and dirt that takes off your face, even after washing. I notice that it has improved minor breakouts, without being harsh or irritating my skin. You can get a big bottle for around $4 or $5, at the drugstore (skin care section)_Another thing he could try using, is tea tree oil. Trader Joe's carries tea-tree oil pads (sort of like clearasil pads, but natural). Healthfood stores might also have them. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic..but it can be drying, so make sure to dilute it, or rinse your face with water after using it. But anyway, bottom line, I think he should also talk to a dermatologist. And patience is also key...if he sticks to a skincare regime for a while, and tries not to touch his face all the time (bacteria causes acne), it should start to improve. Even though there are various products he can try, everyone's skin is slightly different. So just because a product may have worked wonders on one person, it might do the complete opposite with another person. Here's a few websites he could read through-
