If not, wear whatever you normally would and make sure you're comfortable in it.
If it's for meeting his parents, try to make a nice impression - nothing which shows too much. :)

I don't think that most people dress up, so if I were you I would just wear normal everyday clothes if his family is like that too. But if you really aren't sure and don't have an opportunity to ask him, wear nice black pants and a nice shirt. This way, no matter how other people dress you will be ready for the occasion. You really can't go wrong.
