I've noticed when singing in front of people I keep it under my breath and look down. Personally, I find my singing to be good when I'm sitting up straight and looking foward, rather than down.

Don't forget to project your voice! Sometimes when you're in front of people your voice might get low and you might sound insecure of your talents. Flaunt your skill!

Hope I helped =D

do not listen to catlovers, when you are riciting your french or singing just pretend that you are by your self. block out everybody in your mind.even if you do mess up no one is gonna laugh at you.

p.s mainly just have fun while your doing it.

I have a very similar problem, only instead of singing, it is with speaking French. I sound a lot more fluent when I am by myself, but once I have to recite something or speak in front of the class, I sound awful.

I think the reason that you don't sound as good as you'd like to in front of crowds is because you are nervous. Here are some tips:

1.) Practice. The more well-prepared you are, the more confident you will be, and the better you will perform.

2.) After you have practiced, perform or enter a contest! Just knowing that you were able to sing in front of people at all is comforting. Plus, it helps you get used to it so you will be less nervous in the future.

3.) Is it possible to videotape yourself while singing? There are many benefits to this. One is that it will help get over your fear of singing in front of people, because you will be singing in front of a camera. People's reaction to being videotaped is very similar to that of stage fright. Even though it isn't the same thing, it will probably benefit you in some way. It's worth a try! Also, if you are brave enough to listen to and/or watch the videos that you made, you can see what you can do to improve. This should also boost your confidence when you perform in front of people.

Here is a website that may help you overcome stage fright:

Good luck, and if you have anymore questions or need clarification on anything I said, feel free to send a message to my inbox. =]

Best wishes,
