I was wondering, can dogs feel your emotions? I know it's probably a stupid question but the other day, I yelled at my puppy for pooping in the house & gave him a little spanky. He ran off but couple minutes later, I got bad news about my friend and I started crying and even though he knew I was mad at him, he came by me and started licking me and snuggling by me. So, can dogs feel your emotions?
Melody answered Wednesday November 21 2007, 2:28 pm: I'm not sure, but I think they can. I think cats and dogs both can. I've always had cats, and when I cried, they would always purr at my feet, or lay down with me until I fell asleep. I now have a dog. (A LOVELY chihuahua =]) And everytime I cry, she comes running into my room, and sits in my lap. She licks my cheeks, and snuggles up to me until I stop crying, or cheer up.
I think they just know their owners so well, and when they aren't happy, or don't act like they usually act, the know something's not right. So they stick around and try to figure out what that is. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]

But I've had similar moments with my dog. Whenever I'm sad and I don't show it, he always comes by and gives me kisses. When I'm physically hurt, he will actually come by and lick the spots [knee] When I'm angry.. he sits right next to me or on my lap.
There's always an argument about dogs and emotions. Some people think they are incapable of feeling anything so they think dogs can't understand or sense our emotions.
I grew up with my pup so he practically "knows" me. I think if you treat your dog right and you get close to him, he will notice these things and try to make you back to normal. I know they must feel emotions because you can obviously tell if they are happy or not by their tail, ears and "eyebrows". Usually every dog would come up to you if you were upset, It's just how the atmosphere is.
