it is illegal, just as it's illegal to bend a quarter and stick it on your hat (i've seen people do that before). it's not a big deal, and i've gotten money that had been written on before. but i've never had a problem with paying for something with money that has been written on. just don't color all your money with black sharpie or anything.

Yeh it is illegal,though they won't notice it and you can probably get away with it but it's best you don't write on it,unless you don't plan on spending the money you wrote on.
