I have a project that I'm doing for class, basically its comparing my school to those other schools around America. I was curious if you guys could send in facts about your school such as its location (just state will be fine), dress code rules (especially if you have really random, strict ones!) number of dances/events a year, if cell phones/mp3s are allowed on campus, other positives/negatives about your school!
-Our high school isnt very strict on the dress code. Girls wear booty shorts and dont get in trouble. The dress code says no halters or tube tops.. people wear them anyway and teachers dont say anything. The thing they are most strict on are the profanity and inappropriate stuff on shirts.
-We have a ton of dances each year, usually once a month at least. The major ones are Homecoming which is a formal dance.. the girls wear dresses and the guys wear nice pants and a button shirt. The other one is prom for juniors and seniors.
-Cell phones are only allowed before and after school (classes start at 8 and end at 2:30), although everyone uses them during class to text anyways. If you're caught using your cell during class they take it to the office and you have to pay 5 dollars to get it back on the first time.. and 10 every time after that. same goes with mp3s, can't use them in class unless the teacher allows it.
-We have heating almost everywhere in the building, same with air conditioning.
-Sports are really big in our school. Especially football and wrestling.
-You dont need passes to go to the bathroom usually, only for going to the nurse or office or if your late to class.
-Our classes are all an hour and 25 minutes..we have four classes a day. If you skip a class you have 3 hours of saturday school. which starts at 8.

-we don't really have that much of a dress code but we have a couple of rules. our shorts and skirts have to be fingertip length, our shirts have to be atleast two fingers in length at the sleeves, we aren't supposed to let anything really bad show, but everyone does anyways. so we have a dress code, but its not really pushed or enforced.
-at the beginning of the school year, all grades have one big homecoming, sometimes a winterformal, and this year we are planning on having a valentines day dance (but we've never had one before) and then juniors have a prom (in the gym), and so do the seniors (at some country club or some place really nice)
--- for homecoming we have a homecoming football game the day before homecoming (which we usually pick a team that sucks to play so we win and have fun the next night at homecoming) and then the next day we have homecoming
-we are not allowed to have cell phones in school, but you have listen to mp3 players at lunch or in study halls (and some teachers allow to you listen to them when you are working on a project in class) however; most student get away with the cell phone because they'll hide it from the teacher.
-we have some new rule where students aren't allowed to walk around in the hallway after 2:10 (we get out of school at 2:25 (start at 7:25)).
-we have to have passes to go everywhere, and the security guards that patrol the hallways can stop and ask for one, but they are pretty lenient.
-we have a whole bunch of sports and after school activities. (some cool ones too like girls rugby)
-our school mascot is a cougar!
-oh, and sport are HUGE around our area. our teams usually win states and everything. we have football games every weekend, and most kids from the high school (and the "loser" middle schoolers), attend it and its huge (but not where like all the stores shut down).

-we don't really have a dress code, but it just says "to dress in accordance with standards consistent with the health, safety, and welfare of students and the ordrly and efficient operation of the school." basically to just keep a good image. I mean, people will still wear belly shirts and booty shorts, but nothing with offensive writing on it.
-there are two events, I believe. homecoming carnival and senior prom.
-cell phones and mp3 players are allowed in school, but not allowed to be used during class. some teachers argue over whether they're allowed to be used between classes though. but mostly no teacher will care if you're using it in the hallways between classes
-we have 61 after school clubs, many electives to choose from
-People around here are just really snotty or think they're "gangsta."
-no air conditioning except in the offices
-Our school has a very high ranking and very high standards compared to the whole nation [ advicegirl367's advice column | Ask advicegirl367 A Question ]

-No tank tops. They used to be easy on that rule, but they became more strict with it.
-Shorts/skirts have to be fingertip length. Again, gotten more strict this year, even giving kids ISS for it, or sending them home.
-Cellphones are aloud on campus, but can't be used in school. Some teachers don't care though, and kids don't listen.
-Water bottles not aloud, which sucks for athletes. They think people will sneak alcohol in.
-Bathrooms are locked during passing time (stupid, I know) and during classes have a teacher sitting outside collecting your pass to the bathroom. This is because a kid last year went to the bathroom and lit a paper on fire to set off the fire alarms. Now they are taking extra precautions.
-It depends on the teacher, but MP3's aren't usually aloud.
-No jackets are to be worn during school, I don't yet know why.
-Confederate flags are not to be worn/in lockers/in site on campus. Last year they went bulistic and went through everyone's lockers and suspended anyone wearing the flag. This year they told someone they needed to take their confederate flag stickers off of their car, or to not come to school. I think it is quite ridiculous. We are a hick town, so 80% of our school wear it.
-We don't have air conditioning/heating, only in the science wing and offices, not fair.
-Everyone is aloud to homecoming. We have a homecoming dance, a game, bonfire, concert, pasta dinner/volleyball game. Juniors get ring dance where they get their class rings, and prom. Seniors get Senior Semi, picnic, and other fun days.
-We are a "sports" school. Football is a big thing, and definitely Track.
TiffanyAlexis answered Saturday October 13 2007, 7:08 pm: newton falls, oh. (smallest town ever) our dress code sucks. we cant wear cut off sweats, or anything with a hood. well we werent supposed to before. no flip flops or shower sandles. the principal goes around with a ruler every day and if he thinks our skirts are too short, he'll check. he even told us that he put a skirt on to prove that when you measure your skirt yourself, it comes down and looks longer!! in 9 &&10th grade we only have two dances: homecoming &&tinsel. in 11 &&12th grade we have three: homecoming, tinsel and junior/senior prom. there are no cellphones or mp3 players allowed. our school pretty much sucks. its soooo fricking small. and we have like the dumbest teachers!
