Question Posted Tuesday September 11 2007, 10:17 pm
I have bad acne. Iv had it since 5th grade and Im now in 11th. Im 16 and a felmale. I have proactive, but doesnt work. Is there anything I can buy/do to help clear my face up? Anything I can stop eating/drinking that might help. I LOVE Pizza and I do drink to much pop, is the pop doing it? Any ideas are welcomed!.. But I dont want anything stupid like put toothpaste on it. I have acne, not just pimples. Thanks!! =]
when your face gets this bad you need to ask your dermatologist about levulan kerastick + bluelight illumination. the levulan kerastick is a chemical medicine they will rub on your face and than you sit under this bluelight for 17-20 minutes and it activates the chemicals. this is the 8 week process i am currently going through:
week 1- sit w/ levulan kerastick on face for 1 hour, sit under light
week 2- go twice a week to sit under light ONLY
week 3- go twice a week to sit under light only
week 4- sit w/ levulan kerastick on face for 2 hours, sit under light
week 5- go twice a week to sit under light only
week 6- go twice a week to sit under light only
week 7- sit w/ levulan kerastick on face for 3 hours, sit under light
week 8- go twice a week to sit under light
i am currently on my 5th week and i PROMISE you wont regret it. my face is so clear it is really amazing. the levulan kerastick will dry up your face tremendously. and it will PEEL LIKE CRAZY. it kind of made me miserable while i was in school because i felt ugly, but trust me, its worth it. and if you dont fix your acne soon it will leave scars!
your dermatologist will tell you more about it if you go and ask them about it!
i really hope you take it into consideration!

Don't touch your face, and keep your hair away from the front of your face as well. They can irritate the skin.
Drink plenty of water each day.
See a dermatologist.
After washing your face, pat your face gently to dry it. Don't scrub or make swiping motion across your face.

But if you can't do that, try St. Ives Blackhead & Blemish stuff.. that worked pretty well for me too. :) [ xo_underneath's advice column | Ask xo_underneath A Question ]

proactiv didnt do anything for me either. have you seen a dermatologist? trust me, they can help a ton. i went through about 5 creams they gave me, and theres one called Duac that helps a lot!
also, theres oral medication. if your acne is REALLY bad, have you considered accutane? its known to work wonders however there are serious serious side effects. if its not as bad, theres Minocycline. i used it and its amazing.
also, Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne wash is a great face wash that clears it up some and makes your face smoother!

Less chocolate and pizza and pop will help LOADS... Vitamin E is good for your skin (and hair) so any foods rich in Vitamin E will help- green leafy veg (like spinach) is rich in it so increasing your intake of these will hopefully make a difference.

But you didnt want to hear that, so here are other options:
drink water
clean and clear deep cleaning astringent
wash your face three times a day
