I think you will enjoy this book, it is a fun, easy read.

To "Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee of course is very sad, you probably have already read it, but in case you havent you might want to check it out. The story occurs during the Great Depression era so the language can be tricky, however, i think it is definatly worth it! This book is definatly a good book for someone in middle school and everyone. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
I am not familiar with certain books boys might enjoy, though maybe "A Separate Piece" by John Knowles. It is about teenage boys during ww2 and their relationships, opinions, and feelings about the economy and the issue of being drafted. Its major themes are innocence and guilt. I read this book as a sophmore however it is very short and it goes by fast.
