Question Posted Tuesday August 14 2007, 4:18 pm

Alright, so I would like to have a bigger vocabulary. I would like to be able to speak with big words, and know what they mean. Does anyone have any sites or any ways i could learn bigger words? Please and thanks!

my friends and i don't really use big words either. So we made a joke about it. When one of uses a big word, we yell "BIG WORD!" and give each other highfives. This is a great way to have fun with your friends and increase your vocabulary to the next level. If that doesn't work play some scrabble with a wise family member. You'll be amazed at the words you will learn! Have fun!

Whenever you don't know something, read the entire article on Wikipedia. When you find a word on wikipedia you don't know, look it up. You can use google, like this
only search advicenators.com

This will surely expand your vocabulary.

Firstly, STOP repeating yourself immediatley :)

my amazing english teacher told the class that repetition bored people ( and examiners)..and shows you haven't got a wide enough vocabulary ahha.

and dont say big, try: a vast range of vocabulary haha.

Use an online theasaurus or dictionary.com where you may be able to find deeper meaning within words you dont understand. Reading poetry is benificial and researching words in which you are unfamilliar towards.

In my opinion, it's fantastic youre deciding to make this move.
Kids today either speak as though they have been educated ..or dont speak as if educated AT ALL.
Its awful in England...pronounciation for some is almost non-existant.

Over time you will come to conclusion that your writing and approach to discussions will improve :)

Good luck ,remebering to experiment with as many words as possible :)

I would suggest using Dictionary.com. Every day they posted a 'word of the day'. If you check it every so often, you'll be able to pick up more words to use. The words they use to feature as 'word of the day' are not as common, so you'll be learning bigger words & plus it'll be easy to remember. You could also just simply flip through a dictionary & pick out 10-20 random words to study daily. Your school should be teaching you vocab also. Another way would be listening to adults or even teens have conversations. If you hear a word you don't know, ask them what it means. Here's a website-

That site can teach you many different words by using review games & other activities.

-hope that helped!♥
