Is it true

Question Posted Monday August 13 2007, 5:53 pm

Is it true that girls shouldn't use tampons if they are virgins? I mean I know that they can, but I was just told that if you're a virgin you shouldn't use a tampon.
If so, why?
I have plenty of friends who are virgins and use tampons. They say it's a lot more comfortable and such. They also claim to have never had a problem with them.

I know this is a dumb question, but at least I'm not saying that I've had sex with 3 guys and that I haven't had my period and didn't use protection and want to know if I'm pregnant and/or have an STD.

Anyway, despite the oddness of the question, I was just kind of curious about it.

Additional info, added Monday August 13 2007, 6:26 pm:
I know that this is an opinion thing. I'm just saying I've heard a lot of people say that virgins just shouldn't use then and was wondering (if you're of that opinion) why you feel that way. I'm not so sure how clear my question is.
By the way, I'm almost 17 so I know all about this stuff seeing that I've had my period for a few years now.

well you may be pregnant...i would take a test and you might want you and your current partner to get std tests...to be safe..but girls who are virgins can surely use tmpons...but people who arent virgins use them better because theyre vagina opens up wider...and you leak more and its an easier fit.b/c theyre hymen breaks.

OK first off the hymen isn't deep inside the vagina. It is actually considered to be external.

Many things can cause it to break before you actually have sex. You can try to use a tampon
if you are a virgin. You may have no problem at all. If your hymen is already torn you can use
one just fine.

The problem comes if you still have your hymen.
It may be old fashioned but some girls want to
save it for their husband to break when they
are married. I know novel idea these days, but
hurray for those who do. Using a tampon, which
could break the hymen, isn't something they want
to do.

Another problem arises should a virgin keep
tying to insert a tampon when it obviously
doesn't want to go in. Most hymens break easily
but not all do. Some may tear just enough for
it to go in. Then when you try to remove it,
oops! Its stuck. You can't leave it there you
have to go to the doctor and have it removed.

So, if it goes in without pain, no problem to
use them.

If it causes pain to insert it, consider waiting.

This is said, because if a tampon is in too deep, and you're a virgin, it could break the hymen, which is a thin wall of tissue withing the vagina, which breaks when you have sex.

There's a risk that a tampon could break it, but you would have to not follow the directions on the box, in order for this to happen.

The only reason i can think of that would give someone a reason to say that, is because sometimes putting in a tampon can pop your cherry. if your gynocologist looked at u or something, to her it would look like you weren't a virgin even if you were. but it wont necessarilly pop your cherry. hope i helped, please come see my blog!

I've never heard of that, but I looked it up online. There wasn't much of anything on it except on Kotex.com.

If you scroll down, there's a question dealing with who virgins using tampons. It says "Using a tampon may rupture your hymen". That's the only thing I found on your question. Since it can rupture it, sometimes girls do not want to use tampons for that reason. If there are other reasons, which I'm not quite sure what they would be, I haven't heard of any.

I think your question is just a stupid rumor. There is nothing wrong with using them.

-hope that helped!♥

hey, that's not a weird question at all, especially compared to some of the things on this site!
some people think virgins shouldn't use tampons, but the vast majority of women don't agree with that. I guess some people think that if you stick something up your vagina, it's like destroying something that's sacred, but personally I don't think it matters. I mean for god's sake, it's a piece of cotton, not a penis!
If you use tampons you are definitely still a virgin. tampons are really comfortable (if put in right), make your period a lot easier to deal with, and are also EXTREMELY helpful if you play sports.
hope that helped!
