i am inlove, inlove, with boys like girls. but then, all of a sudden, it got on this really popular radio station that EVERYBODY listens too, and they keep playing it, and now like everyone i know is like, "omg i just love them!" and im like you dont even know anything about themmmm. you only know like those two songs. and uhh, there like well, so. and its just EXTREMELY annoying. i dno, im just one of those people who like to be the only one who knows a certain type of music, so then no one can say they like it. because they dont. and its just annoying all the way around.
leLovely answered Thursday June 28 2007, 12:32 am: This happens to me constantly, and I hate it. I know that a certain band doesn't belong to one person and it's not like we OWN them, but it seriously is so annoying. I've liked bands like Hellogoodbye, Taking Back Sunday, Panic! At The Disco, Boys Like Girls, Plain White T's, Cartel, and a ton more, (include My Chemical Romance, which I hate now). I know how you feel, and it is annoying. I LOVE Brand New, and somebody played ONE song from them at a talent show now every girl is like 'Omg I love Brand New!', when they only know one song. It's annoying. You can't really stop bands from getting discovered, though. [ leLovely's advice column | Ask leLovely A Question ]
Splitzy answered Tuesday June 26 2007, 12:43 am: This isn't really an advice question, but this seems to happen with almost EVERY band I love, and it's supersuper annoying.
I LOVED hellogoodbye for years. Then they got on MTV. And then everyone else started liking them.
And OK Go? Yeah. They were my second favorite band... until people starting liking them JUST for that one music video. Gahh. And that's not even their best song!
My #1 favorite band, lostprophets... at least THEY haven't gotten out of control yet. ugh
But I feel your pain. You're definitely not the only one who feels this way. Keep finding music, and loving it for what it is, and not because other people like them.
X_Amanda_X answered Monday June 25 2007, 3:09 pm: Unfortunately, this happens ALOT.
And it's seriously one of my biggest pet peeves.
There's really nothing you can do to prevent it.
It's happened to me so many times before, but I still haven't gotten used to it.
All you have to do is remember that you loved them before everyone else started following the trend. :] [ X_Amanda_X's advice column | Ask X_Amanda_X A Question ]
BAMAWAMA answered Sunday June 24 2007, 11:04 pm: woah i went to their concert they played with some other band and lostprophets...
but yea it sucks when like a bandthat you have all to yourself goes mainstream and everyone is obssessed witht hem and they only know like the one hit thats out...
its good for the band but for the fans it can be annoying
id just say try and get over it...just be like to pople yea so you know that one song they play..and theyll be like oh i dont know that song..and you can say oh i guess your not a big fan....
...when you think about it its kind of natural casuse if someone doesnt know a band until a song becomes popular..they prob wouldnt have known about thema nd thats how people find out about them
devonede answered Sunday June 24 2007, 11:00 pm: I always feel that way. I just have to relax and realize that people all over the world listen to the same music, and that it wasn't just made for me (as much as I'd like that ;])
The radio ruins a lot of good bands for me, but it doesn't make me stop loving them, and it shouldn't do that to you either!
beckyboo answered Sunday June 24 2007, 10:56 pm: Yeah, I felt the same way with Panic! At the Disco. Everyone labels them some teeny-bopper band when really all they've heard is I Write Sins Not Tragedies. I've liked them for years before they got popular. I know how it gets frusterating-- music preference is a unique thing and to have someone take it away from you is incredibly annoying. Honestly, there's nothing anyone can do about it. Telling yourself "Oh, well, I know I'm a real fan, i dont care what other people think" really never works, but it's what we have to do =/ [ beckyboo's advice column | Ask beckyboo A Question ]
IThasJUSTbegun answered Sunday June 24 2007, 10:48 pm: Yeah i used to feel that way with angels and airwaves but i got over it, because i knew i couldnt do anything about it. and who knows maybe some of your friends will want to go to their concert, so then you could see them live. But just try not to get too mad about it, but i know how you feel and yes it is VERY annoying exspecially when they are like OMGZZZ i love th and dont even know 2 song names haha but yeahh [ IThasJUSTbegun's advice column | Ask IThasJUSTbegun A Question ]
