new dog

Question Posted Friday June 22 2007, 1:39 pm

This is more of a question than asking for advice but I want a new dog but I don't know what kind to get. I want a small dog (not small just as a puppy but for it's life). I want it to be cute, smart, easy to train, and friendly with strangers. Can anyone give me names of dogs/pictures?

BTW: I know all of these qualities are based on opinion but try to answer them the best you can.

Just like the one below,... I recomend a Beagle.
Beagles are gentle and happy companions. They are lovable. Beagles are also clever, very quick, and they are most of all, very curious. They are usually friendly to strangers and good with other pets.

A golden retriever or labrador are friendly, eager to please, quick learners, but NOT small! They like to run around and play all day.

Beagles are for huntng. They are also the most friendliest and are quite small. I think that you should get either a golden retriever, labrador, or beagle.

Ok, if you aren't to worried about it being really small, a golden retriever is definatly your dog. they are cute and cuttly as a pupy, and they are very nice, fun, trainable, and loving dogs. They are good for people of all ages, and even small kids. The only problem is that they get to be about 3Ft tall. (not sure if thats right hight lol)

i agree with the last two answers. cocker spaniels are absolutely perfect. i've had xena for sixteen years, & she's the love of my life. hehe. they are medium-sized, though. if you're looking for something a little smaller, cockapoos, cocker spaniel, poodle mixes are great.

& i love puggles, pug, beagle mixes, too. =]

You definatly should get a cocker spaniel. I know that person said it's hard to find, but it isn't at all. You should get a cocker spaniel from a breeder. They are the smartest dogs, like my dog figured out everything really fast. Like we put a bell on the door, and he figured out right away to ring it when he had to go out so it took only like 4 days to make him housebroken. He won't bite ANYONE. He's the friendliest dog I've ever had, and his name is Bubba. He's so adorable too!! He's about 25-30 lbs and he's almost 5, so he's like a medium size dog so they're like perfect!

Here's a picture of my dog,

I recommend Cocker Spaniels!
I have one named Beau, he's chocolate and cream and he's everything you described!
Here's a pic I found on yahoo of a puppy cocker spaniel:

Hey, well thats pretty hard to find. You basically just described the perfect dog. Theres no way that you could get all of those qualities. Your going to have to go without something or maybe more than one thing, because all dogs are different. I would suggest getting a toy/teacup dog. Even those, if not watched closely, could get obest and not be small anymore. I would enroll your dog in doggy training classes at an early age, that way he will learn faster. Good luck.
