To slow down eating, half an hour before a meal, make up a small bag of popcorn. Sound crazy? Yeah I know, but Popcorn has little to no nutritional value and still fills you up. So when you're eating, you already have it in your stomach, so you're less hungry and will eat slower. :] [ basketcase_x08's advice column | Ask basketcase_x08 A Question ]

okay, this is what you do. get RID of all the unhealthy food in your house. that way, there's nothing ' bad ' for you to chew on! stick the cabinets with fruits & veggies and snack on those when you get bored.
it's not BAD to eat when you're bored esp if it's healthy stuff, but by subjecting yourself to seeing food in the first place, you make yourself crave it. keep it out of your room & living room. eat only sitting at the kitchen table. set standards for yourself.
eat with your whole family & talk a lot. the more you are distracted with your mouth, the longer you feel you've been eating although you've been talking & the less you will end up intaking. don't eat while watching TV. you eat more than you intended to & it's just not good for you. Obviously let them know where it is, but don't keep it out in a place you walk by a lot. For example, if your parents buy a box of cookies & you know you'll eat them sooner or later & don't want to, keep them in a drawer somewhere in your kitchen. That way you might forget about them & you won't pass them every time you're walking through or looking for something to eat. Eating when you're bored is actually very common. Entertain yoursself in a different way. You have to teach your mind that just because you're bored, doesn't mean you're hungry. 5 lbs is not too much, so by stay away from junk food & replacing it with snacks such as crackers, fruit, veggies, pretzels, etc. you should be able to lose weight in a week or two. Also, take your time eating. You want to actually taste your food. Take smaller bites & chew slowly. If you eat slower, you'll get full faster & not eat as much.
