hard wood vs. carpet? we're remodeling our house. today, the contractors pulled up the carpet (which had hard wood floor underneath) in most of the house so we could decide to either get new carpet, or keep the exsisting hardwood. the hardwood in my room looks greats, and has nothing major done to it, so i want to keep it. however, i'm on the third floor and the sometimes it gets pretty cold up here in the winter, and vice versa in the summer. i love the hardwood though- can anyone give me pro's & con's to keep it versus getting hardwood?

I'd definitely keep the hardwood. It goes with more color schemes for when you remodel again, or get a new color comforter. Carpet's harder to clean & maintain, and match to the decor.
You can always get nice area rugs for the winter. They're easier to clean if someone, say, spills tuna casserole everywhere. Hey, it could happen.

Hey I had the same thing going on at my house. Wall to wall carpet is annoying to clean out when we get stains on it. With our living room, once the carpet was taken out to reveal the hardwood floor, we put in bamboo flooring, like tiles that fit into each other with slots. That worked out nice because it is easier to clean and when we want to sit on the floor we roll out a rug, that can be washed much easier than carpeting. The columnist who answered before me had a point with rolling out a rug. At least keep it hardwood, because if need be it later on you can put in the carpeting, as opposed to putting it in then taking it off if you changed your mind. I would definitely recommend putting in a wooden floor over the one you have, if it is possible (money, space, availability, etc). If not, keeping the hardwood floor would be fine. Keeping carpeting might make it warmer in the winter, but maintenance is higher on that than the wooden floor. Hope that helped and good luck. ]
keep the hardwood. you can get a nice big rug for when it`s cold. that way, you have the option of carpet or hardwood without spending so much money on getting it changed. ]
