Hi I was wondering if there is something I can do to help me wake up in the morning. No matter how early I go to sleep, it is impossible for me to get up. It's kind of to a point where I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with me.
-No matter how early I go to sleep, I am still SUPER tired in the morning.
-My mom has to wake me up in the morning because I don't wake up to an alarm- i sleep right through it.
-I've tried OTC sleeping medicine-doesn't help
-Drinking hot milk/tea before bed-doesn't help
-When I wake up my mom has to like shake me and usually I fall back asleep very quickly- then she will come back and she is mad at me. I really can't help falling back asleep because I'm not exactly conscious yet.
-I usually don't have a problem falling asleep, just waking up.
-Usually if when I finally wake up which takes me like 35 minutes, I can BARELY open my eyes until I get in the shower.
If you can help me or know a way or medicine to make me WAKE UP in the morning that would be great. I'm asking now so that I'll be able to get in a habit for next school year. Oh yeah btw Im
14/F
Thankyou!!!

Well, it might be that you're always tired becuase you don't have enough Iron in your diet, although I forget what that's actually called. Ask one of your parents or guardians to take you to the doctors. But if you don't have anything wrong with you, before you go take medicines, try drinking the Vitamin Water that is called "Refresh." I believe the flavor is fruit puch, it tastes alright, and it helps. Also, the strawberry - kiwi flavor gives you focus, and that one tastes really good.

If it's becoming a real problem you may want to see your GP, who'll be able to suss out whether you have a sleep disorder or whether you are ok, and help you with advise and at a last resort medication. [ chakra's advice column | Ask chakra A Question ]

It sounds as though you could be a little iron defficient, so try taking some iron tablets or eating foods rich in iron. Some good sources are:
-canned beans
-baked potato with pasta
-enriched pasta
-turkey
-sardines
-shrimp
-beef
You could probably find out more information by typing iron defficieny into Google.
Also you could try exercising more regularly, this is supposed to boost endorphine and adrenaline levels and should make you feel more awake almost immediately.
Or you could try rubbing your ears for a couple of minutes till they feel like a burning sensation. The ear is said to be a minature representation of the body, and so by rubbing them, it is cirulating the blood and oxygen around your body.
If you're worried about the problem & it is becomming an annoyance, your GP is probably the best person to see and they will be able to figure out the problem and help you.
Damian answered Friday May 25 2007, 4:12 am: Just for your information, OTC sleep medications do NOT give you the same sleep that you normally get. They drop you straight into Stage 4 and keep you there, instead of having a natural sleep cycle. That's why it's so hard to wake up until the pills wear off.
You should try to time you sleep in 1-1/2 hour cycles. Each physical sleep cycle lasts for about an hour and a half. If you can set your alarm for the right time, you'll have a MUCH easier time waking up. A lot of people think the trick to waking up feeling better is just getting more sleep. However, if you don't time your sleep cycle correctly, you can be forcing yourself to come straight out of Stage 4 sleep. It's a very miserable, and sometimes even painful experience. From what you described, that waking up takes just a tad over half an hour, I'm guessing that you're trying to rip your brain out of a DEEP sleep section of the sleep cycle.
Try to time your sleep in hour-and-a-half increments (1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, and 9 hours are good numbers). At the beginning and end of each hour and a half, you'll be in a much lighter part of the sleep cycle around Stage 1. You'll wake up feeling a lot more refreshed. In addition, you might want to make light-exposure part of your waking process. Open the blinds right when you get out of bed, even if it feels too bright outside. Since your circadian rhythm is heavily based on light-dark cycles, if you let some of that morning sunlight into your room, you'll have a much easier time waking up. If you can time your sleep cycles and use light to kick-start your body, you'll have a much easier time on those cold mornings. [ Damian's advice column | Ask Damian A Question ]
xkatiex answered Friday May 25 2007, 1:07 am: If you're tired its your body's way of telling you that you're growing. At your age your body is going through some big changes and sleep is where a huge chunk of it takes place. You need to train yourself to wake up. When your mum (mom) wakes you up, jump straight out of bed and have a cold shower or just a regular one if you cant handle it. Tell yourself that you will wake up at a certain time. It will take time. You should be getting 8 to 10 hours a night. You could be over sleeping. That makes you feel tired too! [ xkatiex's advice column | Ask xkatiex A Question ]
Brandi_S answered Friday May 25 2007, 1:05 am: I have the same problem.
Coffee is what I found to be the best medicine. All I ever have to do is think of the smell of fresh coffee in my cup, and I'm up and heading for the kitchen.
If you don't like black coffee, cream and sugar does magical wonders for the flavor. You can also get flavored non dairy creamers, such as french vanilla, hazelnut, among many others. [ Brandi_S's advice column | Ask Brandi_S A Question ]
