Bird Breeds

Question Posted Tuesday May 22 2007, 11:23 pm

I'm considering getting a pet bird this summer- I used to have a couple of parakeets as a kid. But are there other breeds that are nice to keep as pets? I heard that cockatiels are very nice.. I don't want a big bird, like a parrot but something pretty small that is friendly and that I can hold and play with.

This question was asked a long time ago but I wanted to comment on others' comments. I have never raised any other birds before other than budgies (I have a question for you: did you own budgies? parakeet is the name for just small parrots with long, flat tails or something like that; budgerigar is a more specific name. do you not like your budgies that much? what happened?) but you can't really play with canaries and finches because they are too small and canaries are generally songbirds or the like, so they are pretty noisy. Cockatiels are very cute and friendly from ones I've seen. Hope you got one of those! :D There are so many breeds. I once saw a girl with a parrotlet ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)) on her shoulder and she was touching him/her. So adorable. Those seem really great. <3

Here's another thread that may help:
