computer running slow

Question Posted Sunday May 20 2007, 11:34 pm

Well my brother's computer has been running slow and it's not a virus because all our scans were clear and he barely saves anything.

What could be wrong?

He might need to get more memory, or the storage space is low. Best of luck to you. Leave feedback.

I realise you said it isnt a virus, but have you also checked for other adware? If not try run something like spybot or ad-aware. Both are free and downloadable.

Other than the defrag I would also check the hard disk for errors just in case. You can find it by clicking on my computer, right click on c: if thats your hard disk, click properties, then select the second tab at the top.

hey

try running the disk defragmenter.

go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter.

or, try disk cleanup. he probably has a lot of extraneous files and stuff on his computer which is causing it to run slow. even though he barely saves anything, maybe he hasn't been deleting.

definitely try those. make sure you tell your brother to turn off his computer / restart it once in a while.

add the disk defragmenter to your desktop and run it about once a month. your computer shouldn't run slow after that.

Have you defragmented it lately?

If you don't know how to do that, most computers with Windows XP or similar go Start: All Programs: Accessories: System Tools: Disk Defragmenter.
Open that program. (or if your computer is different search for "defragmenter" on your hard disk) run that once and you should be good.

or the humidity or temperature may be getting to the hard drive. try putting a fan next to the tower.
