Very Bad Nail Biting Habit ** This question is intended for people who have had experience with nail biting for quite awhile. Please do not get an answer from Google that won't help me with my problem. **
13/F
I have a very bad nail biting habit. I have been biting my nails ever since I could bite. My mom has been biting her nails too for a long time, so I guess I just picked it up from her when I was little. I've tried everything. The nasty tasting stuff, putting on gloves, and my aunt even threatened to not take me to Cali with her if I didn't stop biting my nails. I stopped biting my nails after that happened and they looked great. Unfortunately, soon before we were about to leave Cali, I picked up on it again. I've been on again off again with my nails, the maximum amount of time that I have stopped is probably one/two months. I don't know how to stop. It's not even a habit anymore, it's way beyond that. Will going to a doctor help? Are there any pills or medications that he would be able to prescribe to me that will stop the habit?

I have the same darn issue. I have been biting my nails as long as I can remember and so has my mom. I finally quit biting mine. What i do is i put the glue on nails on until i feel comfortable with not biting my nails if i take them off. I havent bit them off in like 2 months. Its hard but when i feel like i am about to bit them i use clippers to get the jagged edges or i file them or even go back to fake nails.
Good luck.
Hope that I helped.

I used to do that almost constantly! A doctor may help, but they will probably just give you the nasty-tasting stuff. What helped me was painting my nails/getting manicures (maybe expensive ones) so your nails will look great and you will know how much money you are wasting if you bite them. Also, a new habit, like maybe tapping your fingers on the table or playing with your hair might help. ]
I used to be the same exact way! For me, nailbiting was basically second nature, and I just quit, and have been off it for like 4 months so far.
When i decided to quit, i asked all my friends to let me know when i was biting my nails because i had stopped to notice anymore. Once that worked and i could recognize when i was biting and when i wasn't. Then, i would try to either chew gum or fiddle with something in my fingers when i got the urge to bite--replaced one habit with another. It's worked really well so far. good luck! ]
Yeah, I have the same exact problem and i'm 19... Only you were able to stop! How the hell did you stop for two months? I can't do that, and i've tried the nasty tasting stuff too...
So I don't really know how to answer, the only advice I can give you is to be careful and make sure you don't bite too far because I got my finger infected once and I was in the hospital for like a week because of it. My finger got swollen and it hurt like hell... I could'nt even move it, cause it hurt so much... Sounds stupid, I know.
But just a warning, Good luck!
If you find a solution, please let me know! ]
