sleepover (how to keep my diet while being polite)
Question Posted Thursday April 26 2007, 4:12 pm
im sleeping over my friend who's metabolism is the opposite of mine. she eats a ton but is super short & skinny. I'm tall & am skinny cause i watch what i eat. You see i'm sleeping over her house sunday. I'm 13 & no one i know who is my age diets like i do, or diets at all. My life is full of super skinny, great metabolized, eat-a-ton girls. At her house, they order from a restaurant usually. My friend always gets a burger & last time i was there i wasnt dieting so i got chicken fingers/fries. But now my problem is i dont want to be rude but i dont know what to order. i think salads are usually expensive & ill be embarassing telling her family i really watch what i eat. my friend has a jacuzzi also & we usually put on our bikinis & Jump on in after dinner. my friend loves deserts so she'll ask if i want a milkshake from the restaurant. for breakfast on sundays, they make eggs, bacon, sausage & pancakes. what should i do? i dont want to seem rude but i need to keep my diet. help!! please do so ASAP

Their poor eating habits will most likely catch up to them in the next few years. They're not going to stay skinny like that forever. How many really really skinny adults do you know? Maybe one or two right? As girl's bodies go through puberty they develop an extra layer of fat and obviously get curvier and stuff. It's okay to be self conscious about it, that's normal, but not to the point where you should be embarassed about how you look. Why do you want to be so skinny? Really skinny girls that pig out aren't attractive! Normal sized people that eat normal portions of food are. You probably look like a woman, while if you cut their hair off it would most likely be really hard to tell if they were guys or girls. It shows a lot about you as a person that you care about your body too. There's really no reason for you to want to be skinny like them. I know you probably hear this crap all the time, but be happy with who you are. I'll bet you're really pretty. You sound like you're quite intelligent too. You have a lot going for you. I'm not saying stop dieting because that's silly. Eating healthy is good for you. Just make sure that you're not taking it too far. In some situations it's impossible or very inconvenient to stick with a diet. Like one of the columnists before me pointed out, breaking your diet every once in awhile is okay. In the sleepover situation, it's okay to have chicken fingers and fries. Chicken fingers and fries aren't terribly healthy, but they're not terribly unhealthy either. That would be a good choice. If you really want to get a salad though, get it. It sounds like your friend's parents are pretty well off if they order from a restaurant for everyone instead of just getting a pizza. I wouldn't worry about them spending a few extra dollars. It's not like the salad would be more than $5 more if that. If anybody picks on your for getting a salad, stick up for yourself. You should be proud that you are taking care of yourself so well. They're going to be coming to you for advice about how to diet because they won't have a clue. Either that or they'll just get fat. Anyway, have fun at the sleepover and don't worry so much about your body. It is what it is and worrying about it is absolutely pointless. All this worry and self-consciousness isn't going to get you anywhere or change anything. All you should be worrrying about is making sure you have fun! Good luck. :) [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]

I eat whatever on want on weekends and I've maintained my weight EASILY for over 3 months. One or two days won't make you gain weight.
If you still want to be "good" or not feel guilty, just order something and only eat half of what you get. It's all about portion sizes.
Finally, eating something that's unhealthy before getting into a bikini won't make you look bloated. That's ridiculous. You won't look any different before you ate than after you ate. And even if you think you do, no one will probably notice or care.
As long as you don't let yourself let go of the diet after the sleepover day/morning, nothing bad will happen.

Or just not eat i do it all the time. If you get hungry just drink a glass of water. [ bryanna_banana123's advice column | Ask bryanna_banana123 A Question ]
