How many calories?

Question Posted Tuesday April 10 2007, 10:45 pm

Ok, I'm 5'8, weigh about 138 pounds and am 16 yrs old. I exercise 5-6 days a week and burn about 400+ calories each time I work out.

I'm trying to lose weight, and right about now I'm eating around 800-1,400 (at the absolute most) calories per day. Is that too much? Should I cut out more or add more? I have no idea!

While this might not be the answer you were looking for YOUR PERFECT FOR YOU HEIGHT in fact you could gain 5lbs. However if you are determined to lose weight you must eat at least 1500 calories a day. If you eat less than that your body will go into starvation mode and will turn every calorie you eat into fat immediately therefore defeating your purpose. In order to lose weight you must exercise in moderation and eat well, protein, fruit and some complex carbs. NO SUGAR or high fructose corn syrup which also turns directly to fat. Check the labels of the food you eat and good luck

The others are correct, you are generally eating too little. Here is a calorie calculator so you can see how much you are burning:

Remember, you shouldnt really eat much less than 500 calories below what you burn.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the average amount of calories a person is supposed to consume a day is 200--2500. It's good that you're eating & working out, but you don't need to exercise or do anything because your weight is actually pretty good, but with your height, you might be a little too thin.

Check your bmi here:

You could be underweight, but I'm not sure.

you need to eat more calories i think because when most people go on diets or count calories the lowest it usually 2000 to 2500. also it is better if you eat alot but healthy than to not eat much and not healthy. the more you eat it makes your metabolism faster to burn calories naturally. try eating 5 very small meals a day.
hope i helped
