Question Posted Monday April 9 2007, 10:57 pm

i heard the ddr is a fun way to burn calories and work out ..is this true? and if so, how effective is it, how long do i have to play for? and are there other ways to exercise that are fun and you don't really notice you're actually exercising, like playing ddr?

I play DDR too!! If you play on light then you really aren't exercising, but when you get up into the higher modes like heavy and challenge; you have a better way of losing weight. I plasy for about an hour...two hours max. Every body is different so I couldn't realyl say how effective I think it is, but I've lost weight doing it as well as some friends.

I'm not sure if you agree but running is a pretty fun way to exercise. Its very calming and relaxing...just you and the wind! lol
If you have a dog...you could walk it
Riding your bike witha friend...

I hope this helps! Good Luck

Swimming--you have fun but you don't realize you're burning fat...that is if you're actually going to swim and like swimming.

Dance like a maniac to songs that you like XD

DDR does have you jumping around [if you play the advanced songs]. There is a mode called "Work Out" [I believe] and you can pick that. Once you pick that, it will ask you how much calories you will want to burn. You pick the amount of calories you want to burn and you just start DDRing. After each song ends, it will tell you how much calories you have burned. And you just keep playing until you reach the amount of calories you want to burn. Unless you play it for hours straight, it's not as effective as doing real exercises like running and pilates and such. But it's pretty nifty =) But the thing is that if you don't already have it, it's pretty pricey. And I don't know if the ones at the arcades have the Work Out mode. And if you don't have the hard pads, it's kind of annoying because the pads slide around [I have a styrofoam one & they work well].

Good luck =)

i remember back for playstation 1 i had ddr. it's a REALLY fun game in the arcades but not so much at home. the mats slip and don't register very well unless you have a lot of money for a harder one. it costs a lot of money if you go to the arcade a lot though.

my two favorite ways to exercise without noticing it are

-playing laser tag (you might not have that by you)

-dancing at shows (or moshing or hardcore dancing, depending on who you ask. this really depends on the music scene that you are into)

basically, you can't exercise without spending money unless you go running which is torture. i strongly suggest going to shows. there are so many people in the room, so it's hot enough already, plus you get all of your emotions out and feel great afterwards.

ddr is really fun and once you get going and you get better you can do it faster, making you sweat, burning calories! most of the time you should play till you burn a sweat, but dont go too hard, and DO take breaks becasue its tiring and you might get sick. as to other ways, im not sure, i know i work out in my schoools cardio and weight rooms, but those are SUPER obvious and make u wanna DIE! but its good when you work out at gyms becasue you push yourself[[bike.spinning for 10 minutes on level 7!!]] and when you finish you feel great that you did it and that your DONE!! or anything like treadmeel[[spelling?]] on level 9! good workout...or 7 if its too hard! and when you talking or listening to music or watcing tv it destracts you! hope i helped
