Cyberpatrol

Question Posted Sunday April 8 2007, 10:18 pm

Ok, so my mom installed this internet filter called CyberPatrol. It's really annoying because it won't allow me on way too many sites! It pops up for the most unnecessary reasons!!! usually its for "chat", "glamour and intimate apperal" and "drugs alcohol and tobacco"!!!! I'm a 13 year old girl and this Stupid filter isn't allowing me to Chat with my friends or shop or even allow me on any websites were they even Mention the word cigarettes! Please help me! 1.tell me if you agree with me. 2. I don't want to know how to hack into cyberpatrol, but I want to know how to get my mom to be reasonable with me! Is It because she doesn't trust me? Does she think I'm gonna go on 'adult' websites? PLEASE DO NOT tell me that she just wants to 'protect' me from junk on the internet, because that's not the problem!
In short...I just want my mom to be reasonable!

Just don't freak out about her. Maybe ask her nicely to change the settings. start off with that and gain her trust. tell her that you do not plan on smoking (insert reason here) and it just happens to be on some sites that you like to visit. Reassure her that you won't give out information or talk to anyone you don't know. you have to be mature about it... no screaming or yelling... just telling her that some not so bad stuff is blocking you from where you need to go. She is trying to protect you from bad stuff but you can't be sheltered forever, ya know? I have a brother who is 13 also and my parents have a protection system on his computer too but they just don't allow porn and just really bad stuff. if all else fails, remind her that there are school computers and you could do stuff on there so you might as well learn to be responsible at home, not somewhere where anything goes. <3

I agree with you, censorship software is ineffective and unethical. Show her [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
It explains why cyberpatrol is bad.

Wait, you want me to lie to you? No. I'm not.

Your mom IS protecting you from the dangers of the net, and instead of nagging about it, you should be thanking her. A lot of girls your age are dumb & fall into traps that internet predators place.

It's not that she doesn't trust you, it's just that a lot of girls are vulnerable & believe someone is who exactly who they tell you they are. Talk to your mom about unblocking some of the sites so you can shop, or chat with your friends.

If she's reasonable, she'll do it for you, but if not you're either gonna have to deal or stop going on the computer. They invented the phone and the mall for a reason.

Just talk to her and tell her about what you do on the internet and get her to adjust the settings to work with that.

My mom was that way when i was your age.
She does want to protect you and i know why she does.
Have you tried going up to her like a mature adult and asking her to remove this so you can chat with your friends.
Try talking with her im sure she will reconsider if you go to her in the right way.
Anything problem can be solved if you attck it the right way.
think about it!
