'what's up?'

Question Posted Thursday April 5 2007, 7:40 pm

13/f

when a guy says to you "what's up?" and you normally don't talk to him... are you supposed to say "good" or "hey"?

Like.. is the phrase "whats up" supposed to be asking the person how they are doing?? or is that phrase just saying Hi in a different way?

umm no thats not what it means
If someone would say whats up? it means like what are you up to?
So you can say nothing, or likie homework etc. (just whatever you are doing)

mostly i saw nothing much, what about you?

when a guy says what's up, depending on the guy it means different things. Like if this guy is "popular" and he says "what's up" while nodding his head, he means hi in a kind of like "i'm cool" way. if this guy is your buddy (popular or not) and you are like say in a library reading and he comes over to you and just says in a simple way while going to sit down with you "what's up" then he means "hey what are you doing?"
well i hope i helped...GoOd LuCk!!!

its more both, just say something like, "hey, not much, what about you?" and just take it from there.

Whats up is commonly used, even know everyone knows the answer. "Nothing, you?"
Thats what you should say. "Nothing, How about you?"
Or, "Nothing, Bored. & You?"
Something simple like that :)

They're just asking whats going on, or what you're doing :)
