fear of being too skinny???

Question Posted Saturday March 17 2007, 2:07 pm

Is there such a thing as being scared that you're too skinny? I don't want to say anything, although I bring it up to my mom sometimes, but I know if I said this my friends would flip out and say "what is wrong with you, why are you rubbing it in?" etc. Also, people always comment that I look skinnier than the last time they saw me!! and yes, I know it is a good thing but I see some girls who are just anorexic-looking and very unattractive in my eyes and I am afraid that I look like them.

I dance once a week for 4 hours, and I have swim practice every other day and meets on Fridays. I am very busy, although I don't play many sports, but I feel like I'm in OK shape. But I often just don't feel hungry and I eat when I am hungry(but eat a lot of junk food...i'm trying to eat less).

I feel pretty, but my skin is very pale, I have dark circles and I sometimes feel too skinny, although half the time i am perfectly satisfied. I never feel fat or anything.

Thanks soo much for the help, I guess what I'm asking is, do other people worry about this?
is it normal?
and what can I do to be healthier-looking?
(i always tend to look tired).

Thanks again and I know this was long!

-AW'

p.s. i have a very high self-confidence level and I tend to be a leader in my school/community, but I've been wondering about htis for awhile. thnks:)

I know exactly how you feel; I tend to be the same exact way. I've always been thin, and I don't even intend to be- it's just the way my body is. Everyone is different. As long as you're healthy, that's all that matters. And I know what you mean by your mom thinking it's strange that you mention it- I sometimes mention that I feel too skinny, and people comment that I'm crazy for even worrying about it (probably cause people in this society are obsessed with body image and being thin).
If you feel like you are normal for your body type, then that's fine. But if you have lost weight and feel like you need to eat more or something, then that's something to think about. As long as you know you are normal for you and your type, then try not to worry about it too much ( I do know how you feel though...i'm the same)
And a reason you may feel to skinny is that you are very active. That's good for you though, and as long as you eat well and have good nutrition, I think you're ok. If you want, you can check your BMI (body mass index) to make sure you have a normal weight-range for your height.
So to answer your question, yes, there are others who feel the same.. and to look healthier looking, just try getting enough sleep, drinking more water, etc. I tend to look tired too, and I think it might have to do with stress levels, and sleeping pattern. OH, and another thing..if you don't already, take a multivitamin. It helps increase your energy level and give you needed nutrients.

okay so alot of adults complain about my weight saying that im too skinny when my docter says that im PERFECT weight (5'3 and 102 pounds). thing is dont listen to them, if you doctor says your fine, then you should believe them.
okay yeah its normal other people worry about it. ha.
o make you look healthier you can work out. it will make you look toned and physically fit. try running for like 20 min, look up on google for leg exercise, push ups, and sit ups (try doing 100-200 a day you'll get abs pretty fast =]).
drinking 8 glasses of water a day is really really healthy for you and will help with you bags & will make skin healtheir. =] also for your bags try putting two spoons in the freezer for the night and in the morn but them on your eyes for a while. or try cold tea bags. i saw in like macys or something some lotion thats suppose to get rid of bags. but its expensive. and umm. cover up might hide them.
for your skin like for how pail it is... in the summer tan a lot or try to be outside alot (make sure you wear sun tanning lotion) or try lotions that are ment for making you tan. you can find them at pretty much any type of drugstore place or like walmart etc. or try spray tanning =]
hope i helped =]
any more questionsss askk.

this will tell you if your over or under weight- or avarge. just put in your height and weight were it tells you to =]

There is people like this, like me, sometimes I wonder about that myself. You only think that way maybe cause you do exercise, & are athletic and that is healthy, but eating junk-food doesn't help, try substituting the junk food for something light or something like non-salty crackers, fruits, vegetables, fish. You are probably look tired because you're not getting enough sleep, 9 hrs. of sleep you're spose to have, you can take naps but not for too long cause you'll have trouble going to sleep later. But other than that you sound pretty healthy to me. Keep your head up! Hope this helps.

Sure, others worry about this. If you aren't on an unusual feeding schedule or trying to starve yourself, I think you're fine. To bulk up, build muscle by lifting weights. As for the dark circles-sleep more and use concealor. Eat healthy foods(not junk-it makes you fat not muscular). See your doctor about what you can do. You actually are VERY active-dancing for 4 hours is amazing. You do a lot of sports activity, not much variety but you do the sports a lot. You are very busy so find time to relax. As long as you are healthy, you're fine-just dont stress yourself out too much or do too much!

Well, I know how you feel, because my friend has the same problem. Instead of eating junk food, eat meat and vegetables, and that will make your body healthier. You can't help that your skinny, but don't eat a lot, just to make yourself gain weight, because that's unhealthy. My friend looks at it as a good thing, because she likes her slender body, so you should just keep a positive attitude, and eat right and exercise a good amount, don't overdo it. & I`m sure you`ll be fine. :]
