Lets say some astronaut dies on the moon? What would happen to his body?
I mean there are no bacteria, no warms and maggots...so... does that mean he could stay like this forever?
You see, people are breeding grounds for bacteria. We carry billions of them everywhere; in our mouths, on our skin, in our digestive tract, everywhere!
So even though he wouldn't pick up any exotic bacteria on the moon, he would still likely decompose because of the bacteria he carries with him.
Interesting point though... what about the really low temperatures on the dark side of the moon? Maybe he'd freeze, and the bacteria would die! Then he might not decompose... [ NinjaNeer's advice column | Ask NinjaNeer A Question ]

twistedlover69 answered Thursday March 15 2007, 12:15 pm: some plants do have bacteria but i think the body would disinergate anyway theres no oxygen so there would be nothing to stop the body from decompoing you know and it wouldnt just stay there forever because there are galaxys the sun and astroids and other things in our ever expanding universe actually i beleive 100% that we have life in other plants but hey good question it got me thinkin [ twistedlover69's advice column | Ask twistedlover69 A Question ]
Xenolan answered Thursday March 15 2007, 8:39 am: He would begin to decompose from the inside out, due to the action of stomach acid and bacteria in his gut. However, due to the exposure to radiation and temperature extremes, it's difficult to say what would happen over the long term. Suffice to say it would get pretty gross inside of that spacesuit. Elcee answered Thursday March 15 2007, 8:20 am: It is very doubtful that a space agency would just leave a body to rot on the moon. If they did it would just decompose. [ Elcee's advice column | Ask Elcee A Question ]
