I've been contemplating becoming a Catholic missionary priest for quite some time. I'm scared to tell my friends and family that this is what I'm going to do. I'll be leaving a lot behind, but I feel called...

Being a priest or being a missionary priest?
Regardless, you do what your heart tells you to do.
You're the one that will be living the life, not your family or friends. They will get used to it.
Have you talked to your priest about it? He may have some helpful advice on how to tell your family and friends so they will understand. He has been there himself.
If he has never done missionary work perhaps he can find some information for you to discuss with your family, or maybe he knows someone who can help you with that part. [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

lalaloverxo answered Monday March 5 2007, 7:33 pm: i think its an excellent idea.
and if this is really what you want to do with the rest of your life, go for it! nobody should stop you for being who you really are. they should accept you for who you are. and i think you'll be great at it.
much love,

ashee_baby answered Monday March 5 2007, 6:36 pm: if you feel that this is what you truly want for like the rest of your life, then you shouldn't worry. your family and friends should accept your descisons so don't be scared to tell them. and good for you if you do become a priest! that is a very strong and respectful thing to want.
