Additional info, added Wednesday February 28 2007, 7:50 am: By the way, I'm not the babysitter; I am the parent in need of one. I don't want to end up paying too much, but I definitely don't want to pay too little.
MAK answered Saturday March 17 2007, 9:01 pm: well it all depends on the age of your child(ren)
0-3...20.00
4-7...15.00
8-10...10.00
12 and over...7-10.00
it also depends on how active the kid is. I mean if your son or daugheter is very mellow than it would be safe to pay not as much because you dont want to pay your babysitter twenty dollars an hour to watch your sleeping baby.
anyways good luck!!!
and make sure it is someone responsible, especially if your kid is in the 4-7 age group [ MAK's advice column | Ask MAK A Question ]
xcheerbabex108 answered Wednesday February 28 2007, 1:11 pm: Well, I used to get paid $5 an hour. It really depends on how many kids, for how long, and how good the babysitter is. (If you already know her experience). But usually you can just pay anywhere from $4-$5.
Sabine answered Wednesday February 28 2007, 9:25 am: Oh. I've been through this. The rate varies by geographic region and population, based upon the number of opportunities available to the teens. The first thing I did to find out was I spoke with other moms in my MOMS club and church playgroup. Then I spoke with teens in the church as well. Turns out that in Houston area, you're expected to pay $5 per hour, plus provide any meals (pizza, fast food, etc.) and transportation. If the sitter has his/her own transportation, then it's more. If you're going out all day, for example, and the sitter has to deal with naps, diaper changes, and feeding the child, then it's likely more as well. If you expect the sitter to clean up after your child, then it's more. The teens here tend to do the $5+/hour rate no matter how many children they're watching up to 4 or so. However, your house will be a mess proportionate to the number of children being watched. I would also expect to pay more for sitters who have undergone training, such as CPR certified sitters and those who went through the YMCA's babysitting certification course.
I don't know whether this helps, but several churches nearby us have the Parents' Night Out option. So does the YMCA and a few inflatable Bounce places.
ductape_n_roses answered Wednesday February 28 2007, 6:03 am: The first thing is never ask the people you're babysitting for to set the amount of money because they'll feel pressured into feeling like they have to give you a little too much.
Average amount for most people are $5 an hour per kid. But if there are 2, then $8 hours per hour? It can be a little more flexible according to their age too. (Younger-increase) [ ductape_n_roses's advice column | Ask ductape_n_roses A Question ]
