Claires don't do cartilage piercings anymore.
I suggest going to a spa and getting it done with a needle.

Well then you should report them because my friend works for Claires and they are not allowed to do cartilage piercings. They're only allowed to do three lobe piercings.
And why are you on this website when you're not taking anyone's advice? Guns ARE bad for you.
You want to pierce your bellybutton and your cartilage, there -is- a reason why thirteen year olds aren't allowed to get piercings, because you're not developed enough :s.

i got my cartilage pierced at claires with a gun a little over a year ago, and it turned out fine and i havent had any problems at all. just make sure you clean it very well at least twice a day [3 times is better], turn it after you clean it, try not to sleep on it for the first few months, and be extra careful while brushing your hair and such because if it pulls it will HURT. as long as you act carefully with it and keep it clean you shouldnt have any problems.

Do not go to Claire's or any other shop in the mall that does piercings with guns. When I was like 7, I got my ears pierced with a gun & my ears got raped & got infected. If you want your cartilidge done, go to someone who knows what they're doing & see a professional.

Guns are bad to get pierced with, especially at a place like Claires. I've gotten my cartilige pierced twice with a gun without problems, but I guess that it is risky, you're more prone to infections. You should go to a piercing parlor where they use a needle.

It's interesting that you gave a low rating to the person who told you it wasn't a good idea when she was in fact correct.

Guns are not safe for lobes, although they are acceptable. They are absolutely unacceptable for anything else.

To start with, "professionals" at Claire's are trained on teddy bears for a very short period of time. They don't really know proper procedure or much of anything really.

It is impossible to sterilize a piercing gun. Because of the way the parts work, minute amounts of spray and skin will remain on the gun. Add that to the fact that a "piercer" will often handle the gun, use the marker on your ears, set their hands down on unclean surfaces, and then touch everything they're using for the piercing, well, it's less than sanitary.

The piercing gun essentially forces a relatively blunt object through your ear. It's not as precise or as controlled as a needle. If it's done incorrectly, it can actually shatter your cartilage. You're much more open to infection, which can make your cartilage collapse.

Piercing guns are not safe. The so-called professionals have little training and some previous workers have even talked about how limited their training is.

It's not a good idea. Find a place that will do it right. Your ear will thank you, and in the long run, your wallet may thank you too.

No, its not bad at all, you actually feel the pain a lot less and it goes by faster with the gun. Good luck and happy birthday

Claire's is the last place you want to get a cartilage piercing. If you do a little research on it on google, you'll realize the differences between the two. While needles are sterilized, stud guns are only sanitary (yes, there's actually a difference.) With a stud gun, you can be left with excess scar tissue & a shattered cartilage. It's just much safer to go to a professional piercing place & use a needle. (& anyone who knows anything about piercings.. knows this, so take my word for it.) You'll be paying about the same price anyway.

The professionals at Claire's are very nice and save, you are in good hands. The gun is used at basically every ear placing shop you go to.. so that the piercing is quick and almost completely painless.
When I had my cartliage done I was so scared it was going to hurt. I was shaking so bad that they had to wait until I calmed down to pierce it!! But when I closed my eyes she clicked the gun and that was it. I hardly felt it! It was a very, very tiny pinch and it was over and done with. No problem.
I actually felt a little stupid that I had made such a big deal of it!
So don't worry, you'll be fine! The gun is just used to make the piercing go fast and be painless.

truly if its done by a gun, it goes by a lot faster. at first it kind of looks scary because yeah.. it just does.. but trust me. its the fastest way and probably the most less painful. also its good because they sterilize it.. so they arent touching it with their fingers and all that.

illdomybest answered Monday February 5 2007, 7:21 pm:
Its being done by people who know what they are doing so i dont think you have much to worry about..ive never heard of professionals not using a gun..the only way i could see it not being safe is if someone who didnt know what they were doing did it but that wont be the case in your situation so dont worry about it..it might just hurt but nothing to diffrent from having lobes pierced and the pain will go away.
