me and this boy are about to date. we talk about having sex sometimes. i asked him last night if he uses condoms or not. he says he doesn't like to, i do respect that bC i have had sex with out a condom, but the guy pulls out ((i know all the lectures people so please do not give them to me)) i told him i wouldn't mind him not using one as long as he pulls out he said that was fine. then i said i was on birth control, he then said that there is no reason for him to pull out, i'm on the nuva ring, i've been on it since november, i honestly dont trust birth control, but how much is there a chance of my getting pergnant by being on the nuva ring?
i am 18 female.

LadyH answered Monday February 5 2007, 8:01 pm: Birth control is about 98% effective with perfect use & 92% with typical use. (A majority of people don't use it perfectly every single time, so you would go by the typical use.) Although your likeliness of getting pregnant is unlikely, the chance is always there. If you don't trust your birth control, take an extra precaution by using a condom or having him pull out (although it's not guaranteed to work every time.) Also, I know you are taking pregnancy precautions, but you should also consider protect yourself from STDs. If you are set on the idea of not using a condom while having sex, then atleast have him tested beforehand. Respect & protect yourself. [ LadyH's advice column | Ask LadyH A Question ]

megan13456 answered Monday February 5 2007, 6:22 pm: since you are on the nuva ring theres a 99% chance you wont get pregnant. you are very safe. but however i would deffinatly have him get checked for StDs just in case. Might be good if you did too just to see if you are safe. If he has no stds. I say go for it. its so unlikely you will get pregnant 1% chance you will. so good luck
Greyskate answered Monday February 5 2007, 6:12 pm: if you are using birth control than you will not get pregnent, however birth control makes your body more likley to get a std so i would sugest both of you gettin checked for one [ Greyskate's advice column | Ask Greyskate A Question ]
blwinteler answered Monday February 5 2007, 6:10 pm: You will likely not get pregnant as long as you are using birth control as directed.
Now, I know you know the lectures about pulling out not preventing pregnancy, so I will skip that.
But, if he prefers not to use a condom, it is very possible that he could have an std. Make sure you both get tested before having sex. If he is really wanting to without a condom, he will get tested. If he doesn't get tested, then he really doesn't care enough about you or himself. You getting tested is just as important, if not for more than to encourage him. I am guessing you have had some sort of test, as many doctors do that when prescribing birth control. But if you haven't, it is a good idea anyway as you have had sex without condoms. It is always better to be on the safer side with these things. Even if you are totally sure you are fine, getting tested once in a while can confirm it and that is a very good thing. [ blwinteler's advice column | Ask blwinteler A Question ]
