Question Posted Thursday January 25 2007, 10:07 pm
I go to a school OBSESSED with sports.
We win everything, every sport..you know. Anyway, people take gym wicked intense. I dont know why? I have never been a gym fanatic, being a girl. This semester, I have to play volleyball and I cant. Literally, I am so bad! I cant even hit it over the net and I duck when the ball comes towards me. Any advice on this and how to make it seem less like I cant play? Laughing with my friends isnt working, its just making me look like a flake. But not being able to play well is embarassing.

We played volley ball in 7th and 8th grade and I rarely could get the ball over the net. But I laughed it off to myself because I know that not everyone is good at certain things. We're all different. Some people are great at science, others hate it. I love english, some people hate it. I think you get the point =). Anyways, one day at volley ball I really wanted to try and do well so I set my mind to it and looked really hard when the ball was coming to me. Then I thought, hey it's not going to hurt me because everyone else goes right to it and they're fine. So I put my hands into fists and I just tried to aim for it whenever I could. Even if you still miss the ball people will respect you and be happy that you tried so hard. I really hope this helped and good luck! =) [ chrissabelle37's advice column | Ask chrissabelle37 A Question ]

So I know how you feel at that point. But the next time I actually did it was because I tried real hard and put my mind to it. If you try everybody will respect you instead of seeing that your not trying and will be sorta depressed. I hope everything goes well for you! [ kiran's advice column | Ask kiran A Question ]

Just keep it off of the floor. If you could be a setter that might be easier for you. that way you have a lessened chance of having to get it over the net.
Good Luck!

Weight training would definitely increase your strength. Do push-ups, lift weights, and stretch your upper body. Three hours a week will help. If your school has a fitness center or weight room, use it. [ kleokriesel's advice column | Ask kleokriesel A Question ]
